I've just ordered the Galaxy A9 Pro for £70 more and for that extra £70 it has an octa-core Snapdragon 652 (similar performance to last year's 810 minus the overheating), 4GB RAM, 5000mah battery, 6" 1080p sAMOLED screen, S7-esque metal and glass build, f1.9a 16M camera, 6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, 32GB storage, SD slot etc.
I just think this Sony XA is vastly overpriced for what you're actually getting.
Looking at the A9 Pro, it does not have LTE band 20 (800Mhz) - is that correct & how have you found it?
This isnt their flagship range, is it?
X performance is flagship... X is their standard top end model, gold standard if you will and xa/xa ultra is superr mid randge..this is the best to go for if you want Sony RN.
Phones are boring now arnt they ?
Used to be kind of exciting but now they have plateauxed.
The top range phones 2014 are still great, my s5 and z3 compact will do for another year or two.
I agree I think the major companies really mishandled things by locking down the boot loaders and invalidating warranties , just killed the enthusiast tech crowd that was creating all the excitement about smartphones. And then Google removing Sd card usability, without any warning . If you betray your customers they remember simple as that.
Maybe time for Sony to give up on phones.

Totally agree... Sony are very bad at keeping their customers informed and supported.

I have a Z3 Compact Phone which was one of the last ones of the big players to get Lollipop in the UK and its looking like we will be the last to get Marshmallow. Its annoying to keep waiting and waiting... To annoy users in the UK who have SIM free phones (ie not tied to any particular network) Sony make them the last to get the update. Vodafone, O2, EE, 3 have already given their customers the update.. And I thought the unbranded ones get them first. Frustrating and annoying!

The worse thing is that no one even tells the customers... Their response is "How longs a piece of string??? You'll get it when we feel like and we don't know when we will feel like rolling it out!!"

What a pathetic way to treat customers. Shame on you Sony!

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone who has received an S7 Edge from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk on Vodafone contract confirm if the handsets are GSM unlocked or locked to the network please?

I contacted mobilephonesdirect and they said they would be locked, but I would like confirmation from a user.

Many thanks!

Edited By: emissary on Mar 12, 2016 10:56: Spelling mistake.
You got a free Gear VR if you pre-ordered the S7/S7 Edge from Carphone Warehouse.

Selling the Gear VR would have dropped the overall price of the phone.

Since the phones have now been released, the best S7 (non Edge) prices are £540 (MobilePhonesDirect) and £560 (Amazon).

I'll wait for it to drop below £500.

I'd definitely get an S7 if I hadn't already got an S6 which has put me off Samsung phones for life. Samsung's idea of a software update is buy a new phone.
Don't judge Samsung on S6. It was pap. The S5 is great. The S7 is more S5 than S6 with new stuff. Hence why I'm looking to upgrade - having ignored the S6.

Got mine for another year on contract yet, so I hope Marshmallow fixes the S6's inherent bugs and irritations.

or just sell it before S6 price plummets & buy an S7 Edge? or even buy a cheap S5 and get an S7 Edge once the price drops 2 months after launch. you dont have to stick to a phone if you dont like it.

Ordered the £619 deal from Mobile Phones Direct on Sunday, only today do I find out that it's not due for delivery until the 15th. Possibly. Yes, I'm a spoilt brat, but I do like getting phones at launch. So I've cancelled and gone for a pre-order from Samsung which works out a little better once you've sold the VR headset. Which I probably won't :-)

Launch day for us pre-order people was yesterday. I received mine by courier delivery yesterday.
Yes, I know launch day is the 11th, but Samsung promised them to everybody who pre-ordered early :)

http://i63.tinypic.com/118zhqe.jpg
Bear in mind that the UK is getting the slightly slower Exynos 8890-based model and not the faster Snapdragon 820 version. Probably won't make much difference to real world usage, but might influence some people's decision - particularly gamers.

Is this watch compatible with IPhone ?

Yeah, but you'll need to pair it to an Android device first, update it, then wipe it before it'll work with iPhone.
Advise getting a pebble , it's so boring but that's actually a good thing , I would imagine the watch like this any moment I was bored I would be prodding and poking my wrist .

It's probably quite likely that the phone will much cheaper by the time it is released.

Unlocked mobiles usually price very close to the RRP. They still sell the 535 for £95, when it was available everywhere else on release for £89 or lower.

Cold!!! Just get a moto g instead it's way better
There are plenty of us who have used all the smartphone OS's and that now use Windows Phone out of choice.
So just stick with your Moto G threads and leave us in peace ;)
Can you please expand, I ve always been android and find it Cluncky and not as sexy or Smooth an experience

I'm not sure I understand the question? Are you saying you find Android to be 'sexy and smooth'...or Windows Phone? (I'm not sure I'd use either of those terms to describe a smartphone :) !)

I don't find android sexy or Smooth lol. Can you or anyone tell me about your experience with Windows please

I wouldn't expect the 535 to have an excellent camera given its price point. However, it does have a flash, and does have autofocus....and does benefit from the full Lumia Camera experience (manual controls etc).
It'll be better than the Moto E/G, but then again, most phones have better cameras than those two!
The samples on that site I looked at look fairly decent, especially for it's price range. Vastly superior to my Moto E anyway!

Yes, they do look pretty nice....but just keep in mind that the quality will drop off quickly indoors. The 735 has an F1.9 aperture lens, which makes it exceptionally good at indoor photos (or low light photos)...
You'll certainly be getting an upgrade over the Moto E - but if you really want some quality photos, the 735 is a great place to start :)

A review here, with some sample images from the camera too.http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/reviews/item/20356_Microsoft_Lumia_535.php
Im thinking about changing from my Moto E to one of these Windows phones. The Moto E is ok, however it must have the worst camera of any phone out there right now, which was a bit of a disappointment.

(Personally, I'd wait for a Lumia 735 deal. 1080p stereo video recording, Snapdragon 400 processor, 720p display, bigger battery...optional wireless charging. Was available for £129.99 from O2 with a free speaker and wireless charging pad. Not sure if that deal is still on - but you can definitely pick them up with free Fitbit Flex's)

I ran two personal phones for over ten years, one on Android and one on windows phone. I tried several makes and models.
Until 9 months ago, the Android OS was slightly my favourite, but with Windows 8 and then 8.1, I switched camps.
If you care to look at the OS now, it has the notifications bar and pretty much all of the apps you could ever realistically want (major improvement recently). I finally plumped for this OS.
I also decided to choose a 'Phablet' that would take the place and the duties of both a tablet and a phone - in one unit.

Therefore, the Nokia Lumia was my obvious choice. It is fast, durable and well designed, with a battery life to die for.
I was a little nervous at first, as it appears big, but a slim and smart case gave more grip and now I cannot fault the Lumia.

I paid £300 from CEX, but I have more recently seen them for arouns £350 new. At this price, with the superb spec, it is a bargain.
No, it doesn't have Samsung's own added software, but it does come with Here+ Maps and Drive (superb!) and MS Office as standard (Priceless for documents), so do please give it a close look.

PS I am not a Nokia or MS employee, merely so please to have only one item to carry not two or three!!

Bought in Tesco when they had that Clubcard deal, used my 70pound voucher to bring total price of 600 hundred to 460, gonna save this year's vouchers to spend them on Note 5.

To be honest, Note 3's battery life is much better than 4's, definitely need an external battery If you are a heavy user like me.

I was going to buy it from Tesco too but didn't do it. When is the next Boost? I have a Note 2 which is working perfectly fine, except i've just cracked the screen a second time. I'm thinking to get the Note 4 on a contract but but can't find an outstanding deal at present. I too am wondering if I should hold out and save up the vouchers for a Note 5.

I had cracked Note 2's screen before, had it repaired under warranty for free without any questions asked.

The boost usually starts every 3months when statement comes out I think. The best way to do it is, convert your top cash back money to Clubcard points, maximum 50 pound I believe, then save all the points until November/Xmas boost, without the boost I wouldn't be buying the phone as Tesco's price isn't attractive.

Anyway, let's see what Samsung will bring next, if it's a better Note 5, I will definitely be buying.

Nexus 5........ £269.......New Nexus 6 October ish & prob Less than the £400 for HTC....

I hate comments like this. You could spend your life waiting for prices to drop further. is it the cheapest at the moment. if so hot. whilst the nexus 5 is a great phone, this is a better phone. you can't compare.

Thanks for your Input but....I hate comments like yours.. Price is Important but so too is Quality & Value for Money - hence my Comment - the inference being that the HTC is Pricy in Comparison to other phones - some of which are nearly as good if not better in some aspects

hi deals, I have travelled lots of the uk, camp in campsites etc and I have never had any problems, so much so that I currently have a mobile dongle to use my laptop in these locations lol, but now have the one m8 and unlimited data I will use the handset to tether the laptop and close the dongle.

I personally cant fault 3, that's why ive stuck with them so long, but I suppose some areas coverage is not as good as per your experience.

I would like to see the screen working, but ideally I will hold out for the Samsung note 4 and fingers crossed it will have a QHD screen

But it will still have touchwiz....(shudders)

Thankfully i never suffer touchwiz , i simply download Nova launcher the free version and its totally Ace , i have done the same for all my past Samsung phones , S3 , S4 and the Note 3....makes a real difference..so if anyones getting the shudders with touchwiz , you shudder downloaded Nova Launcher !

would you need to pay any import taxes if you bought it from Amazon.de?

as far as I'm aware, there is no import taxes for items moving within the EU. The bigger problem is the cost of shipping, whether the phone is going to be any different to a UK version (e.g. is it going to work on all UK 4g bands), and the pain of having to send it back to germany if it develops any faults during the warranty period.

I'm not sure which is better cos i was thinking of buying a nokia 620 before I seen this. I like the bigger screen here (lower ppi v Nokia 620) and newer operating system and newer processor also are good. I bought the 925 for my girlfriend and it dropped like a dead weight. We bought it in September and by December it had dropped by around £50 retail. You can now pick it up for £140 via o2 refresh - half what we paid at the time.

Samsung have dropped the ball with the S5, it's between the Z2 and LG G2 for my next phone ;)

I wouldn't go for the Z2.

I'm moving away from Samsung after my contract ends on my S3 in the next 2 months. Can't stand the bloated software and cheap build. Was looking at the Z2 but it's supposedly very similar to the Z1 which 2 guys in the office have, and they're having no end of trouble with them. Also things on them are annoying and the Z2 has them too.

First is the fact the microphone is a small hole down the right hand side of the phone that they both say that their hands cover it by accident all the time when they answer calls and the person on the other end can't hear them.
Second is the dust/water cover that goes over the micro usb power socket. Very fiddly to remove every time to want to charge it or connect it to your PC etc.

Sounds like they have the older Z.

The new Z1, and the just out Z2 don't have covered for charging, or the headphone jacks, because Sony got complaints about them, and in the new model re-designed them.

3 people I know have the Z1, none of them have the microphone issue [steve jobs mode on]. you're holding it wrong [/steve jobs mode off]

The only criticism of Sony that seems justified is that they release flagships every 6 months, so you'll not have the latest and greatest 6 months down the line.

HTC one replacement for you? Good luck on every getting that updated then....

The new Z1 and Z2 still use flaps for charging through micro USB. Its part of the waterproofing. The only way to charge the device without actually using the flaps is to use the gold connectors on the side for docking. Agree with the headphone jacks not being covered though. Thank god for that. It was irritating like hell on my Xperia Z to have to open a flap just to plug in my headphones.

Can't wait for 25th March! The All New HTC One! That should be a good shout, either HTC One, Z2 or LG for me, still not sure about S5 I want to see them all in action first.

Trouble is, will the new HTC One ever see an update....let alone 2 years of support. HTC have a really bad reputation, deservedly so, for not really caring about support for older devices, for that read the one they've just sold you.

+1. I'm going to second that. Aside from my update to 4.3 I haven't got a peep out of HTC. No updates to fix bugs like the keyboard crashing or variable wifi signal/slightly dodgy battery life. Bit miffed I have to say looking at it now. Prior to that my Xperia Z got two updates in the six months I had it and although it didn't get 4.2.2 it still got more updates than my HTC.
Does anyone know what the 'content' is?

I want a modern phone that has Ant+ and can get wet - so it's this or the S5. I do quite like the idea of 120fps for playing with the dog and slowing it to 15fps or whatever. (4k I don't care about so much, likely my 60d will do much but at 1080p than this will at 4k if I need 'high quality'.) S5 has an (easily) removable battery, but these days not so bothered by that.

Its only hot when its valid as soon as its expired its cold. Makes sense to me. Whats the point in voting hot for a deal when its no longer valid, people will see it becuase its hot then realise its actually expired and be like wtf!

£515 cold

How can it be cold? Expired, yes, but not cold since the deal was for the phone at £356 not £515. :|
£515 cold
This, the G2 or the Nexus 5.

I've played about with the G2 and the N5, G2 seems like a beefed up N5 and on this site there's almost no price difference. How does the Z1 compare to both of those?
Sony or Lucky Goldstar? Thats not a choice
