For just one phone call you could earn an extra £40 in interest (basic rate tax-payers) over the next 12 months.
LloydsTSB currently pay 4% gross on their Classic Plus account, which has no monthly charges, but requires you to pay in at least £1000 each month.
However, they have a deal on at the moment to pay 6% (rather than the 'standard' 4%) for the first 12 months to new customers.
It is not widely advertised, but existing customers can ring through on the telephone banking number 0845 3 000 000, and ask them to switch you onto the better rate for the next 12 months.
Interest is only paid on balances up to £2,500 and so if you keep the full £2,500 in for the next 12 months, this extra 2% bonus is worth £40 after tax for basic/20% tax rate payers.
I made the call (it took 5 mins, and lines are open 24/7) and they made the switch there and then - all other details (Card/PIN/cheque book etc.) remain the same.
Surely this is a hot deal for any existing LloydsTSB customers with this particular current account?
