Just upgraded my Current Account with the Halifax online.
It costs £12.50/month but you get free Worldwide Travel Insurance for a family of 4.
In addition you get free RAC cover, No commission on travel currency. Mobile Phone Insurance. A Discount card for attractions and other benefits.
Check it out.
My plan is to upgrade for the duration of my holidays and then downgrade afterwards.

More a tip than a deal, but hopefully will save somebody something.

aren't these things normally for a minimum period of 12 months?
There are also other banks that do very similar for £10

Natwest do the same thing, mobile insurance etc and travel insurance.

I'm definitely not tied into any kind of contract - i can cancel mine whenever I like. Never thought of using it like this though. :) Have some heat.

Should have mentioned that the travel Insurance got rated 5 stars by some independant company. So probably better than the rubbish policy you probably get of your travel agent.

my lloyds tsb does this. think it includes travel insurance too and I just been away and forgot all about that....
I'm terrible. I don't have a car either... and the mobile they've got registered is one I had about 4 years ago... I'm useless.

It's about £7.50 a month I think.

I should cancel it :w00t:

I downgraded my current account a while ago so that I don't pay the bank to run my account.

The incentives they offer like breakdown cover, travel insurance etc I have by shopping around. You will save money for an annual travel insurance policy. AA/RAC is only £33 for the basic cover. £12.50 a month is £150 a year, you can easily get the cover for less than that.

Agreed, but you only have to upgrade this until you have finished your holiday. Full bells and whistles policy for £12.50. Pity this wont hit the front page as I'm sure it will benefit some people. I understand that other banks may be cheaper, but this IMO is a way to beat the system. Am guessing most people hate giving money to the insurance companies. But the cold voting sheep will stop folks using this.

my wife barclays one is good though...14.50/mth but you get the top rac policy, mobile phone ins, will writing, a top travel insurance policy (which we were going to but seperately - but if we got the same policy the family travel ins would have been well over £120 alone for the £10m cover, etc)...can cancel at any time, was a bit sceptical but seems ok

Youre probably baffled as to why this is voted cold too.
