I just phoned up Sky to ask about upgrading to Sky HD (we currently have Sky plus) and getting Sky multi room for my wife's brother.

The answer took me by suprise, seems like a great offer for an existing customer!!!

The offer was:
free Sky HD box
free installation
Sky multi room free for 12 months (£10.25 thereafter) - including free install of current Sky plus box to second room
£100 credit my account (takes 45 days to appear)

So the extra cost is £10.25 (for the HD pack) (for 12 months)

As we wanted Sky HD and Sky Multiroom this is an amazing offer, well I think so anyway!!

What do you people think??

I agree I guess it depends how long you have been with Sky and other offers you have received.
The Sky guy said the offer was called the HD loyatly offer, in case anyone else wants to try.

No M&S vouchers, just money off the bill. I never shop at M&S so great for me

Why cold? I know others may not be able to get the offer, but surely the offer alone is hot hot hot!!
#7
so what are you paying per month now with the new HD charges?

I think you have answered your own question.

Oh ok. Does that mean any regional offers should be voted cold as well?

£42.25 per month, but the brother in law will be paying £10.25 so for me its £32!!

I think these offers depend on a lot of things, who you speak to, the package you're on, how much you spend etc. I called sky a few weeks back to take sports off my package and was offered 6 months half price TV(which i took) and as i dont have broadband or phone with them they said if i moved to them they'd basically give me it all for free (free line rental for 12 months, free eve&w/end calls and free broadband if i took the net and telephone package).
Havent voted either way but its worth a call to see what you can get!!

my mate got the vouchers but not the £100 credit

IMHO Sky HD is a bit of a con, its only 1080i so its not that great and it eats storage space. I only went for HD as I upgraded all of my kit, from silver to black, and as the old white box was freezing anyway it needed replacing. They wanted £180 for a new box so I just signed for HD to get the free box for £10 over 12mths (minimum period). As soon as my subs period ends Im cancelling!!

No. Many of these Sky "offers" are dependent on your own purchase history with the company, so it's unlikely others will be in the same boat. Plus most other companies don't lie to you when you try to leave them. (Well, I said most.)

Just about to get an HD telly and as a Sky subscriber I'll def be on the phone to them about this.

The credit would allow me not to worry about buying a freeview HD telly (and upgrading my aerial to get decent reception) so even with their HD tax, I'll be at worst marginally worse off after a year watching a much better selection of HD channels.

Have some heat!

after 12 months of free multiroom, could the multiroom be cancelled instead of continuing to pay £10.25 after

as the £100 credit pretty much pays for the sky HD pack anyway.

What a good point!! I'm pretty sure he won't be, as he is 18, but just in case I'll tie him into a 12 month contract!! :)

Its broadcast in 720P, which is the standard for HD broadcast. By switching your box to receive 1080i you are, technically, receiving a lower quality picture than if you set the box to 720P. The only way to watch 1080P on a HDTV is via Blu-Ray, or a few PS3 games.

If I can convince the Mrs as to why we need to give sky even more money a month, I might give it a go, thanks OP! :)

Interesting? so if im getting any channel in HD i.e. sky sports 1HD I'm better of setting my box to 720p instead of 1080i.

...did you threaten to cancel or make noises about going to Freeview/Virgin etc...or did you just genuinely ask about upgrading to SkyHD? I may give it a go tomorrow but I'm never that lucky...they'll probably just offer me my current package at 25% off for 6 months like they did last year...or more likely tell me to buzz off!!!

you would have got £100 cashback through quidco and the £100 m&s vouchers last month......£100 cashback and £50 m&s this month ;)

Only ask as you say multi room is for brother in law and both boxes need to be plugged into the same phone line

No I just said I was interested in upgrading to HD and he said they had just started a new offer!!
We are currently receiving half price sports and movies.

This is quite frustrating it would appear people are voting cold for no reason, understand you may not get this offer, but if you could it would be hot deal, right?
Has anyone actually been rejected this offer??
#27
I called up about this offer and apparently its only for customers that live in urban areas.

Whereabouts are you OP?

spoke to someone else and asked them what the sky hd loyalty offer consisted of and they said - free sky hd subscription for 12 months, multiroom would be £10.25 per month and £49.00 for the sky HD box, free installation and that was it... no credit

Interesting? so if im getting any channel in HD i.e. sky sports 1HD I'm better of setting my box to 720p instead of 1080i.

Yes, thats right. 720p is made up purely of 720 horizontal lines of information. 1080i has lines that are "generated" by the TV. i.e. it fills the extra lines with what it "thinks" should be there. Hope that makes some sense....

i didnt know that, I'll give it a go, I think its just because I bought a 1080p t.v so thought that I needed the highest poss setting to get the most from it.... clearly not!!! Cheers ;)

just cancelled my sky 2 days ago half price sports package free hd for 6 months for £25/month. this is another 12 months offer from sky you can cancel any time is it a bad move? anyone?
#31
^^ I'd personally say from experience that it totally depends on the rep you talk to. I doubt this is a "standard" deal TBH so best to call them and get them to spell out exactly what you're getting and the terms ;)

Phoned yesterday looking to cancel wanting a deal on the multiroom. Was offered nothing & they cancelled my account. Phoned back blagging needing to delay cancellation for a week to try & see if they would offer anything else & was offered Free multiroom for 12 months with a new HD box. but had to pay £10.25 for the HD option. told them virgin were offering online a £100.00 credit, would not match the £100.00 but offered half price subscriptions for 6 months. I am happy with half price subs for 6 months & free multiroom for 12 months.
