You have to pay for shipping, which is £12.87 to the UK, But good value, considering it normally retails for £59.

You'll need to enter the serial number on the laptop to verify the transaction, but apart from that, the rest is easy.

also base units mines x3200

any reason people are voting it cold?

..not so cold now

probably because its extremely specific. Only Acer and only those bought since 26th June.

People on here are very fickle - they would vote a 1p PS3 game cold because they don't personally own a PS3. Ridiculous.

I've voted this hot. Even though I don't own an Acer laptop :-)
#3
Tried it for my (non-eligible) Acer netbook, but no luck. :whistling: Nice tip for those who are eligible.

Of all the scams run by the PC manufacturers for a free Windows 7 upgrade, this is the cheapest I've seen.

One of the most literate reasons for cold votes I have ever seen on here, sadly very probably true.
I'm heating the deal(I don't have an Acer either),and repping dvdbargainhunter.

where do i find out about this
#7
Also applies to people who bought the Net-top ie Acer Aspire Revo recently, ordered my upgrade the weekend.
#8
I just ordered mine. Thanks Op...H&R added!

I don't vote on this but I can understand people voting cold. When it says "free" the upgrade should be free and people should boycott these scams. I would if I wanted Windows 7.

Looks like scam for me.

Some useful info as regards checking eligibility according to your specific machine

Acer www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/
Compaq www.hp.com/go/windows7upgrade
eMachines www.emachines.com/windows7upgrade/
HP www.hp.com/go/windows7upgrade
Sony www.vaio.eu/windows7
Toshiba www.toshiba.co.uk/windows7
Lenovo www.lenovo.com/windows7

For the Sony delivery charge is £20, and up to three weeks before delivery...Good Luck!

Ordered one a couple of days ago for my desktop. Redirects through mediamentorcorp.com . The site only works in IE and Firefox and threw up a load of certificate not signed etc warnings in IE.

I think Advent has the cheapest definition of free (£10). Over 3 times this amount to upgrade for free with Fujitsu, which is more than I paid for a full version from Additions Direct using the £20 off new customer code.

tried a non listed Acer 5920 and it worked. but i still dont know if its just an upgrade disk or a full install. haven bought yet :w00t:

I am so Vista bitter that I am staying with XP until I buy a MAC. Hot if you have a qualifying Acer.

most netbooks are not elligible as they come with winxp rather than vista which is a requirement by ms to the manufacturors offering this scheme

Acer did a similar deal for Vista when it first came out. I remember the whole process of ordering the "shipping cost only" upgrade being rather involved. Eventually got the upgrade disk after chasing the order a few times, but had to wait months for it. For anyone considering this, I sincerely hope that Acer have improved the whole process by now. Other than this I have been very happy with my Acer laptop.

T be fair, it doesn't actually say it's free. I ordered this a few weeks ago and was waiting for the notification for purchase. It was made plain that the upgrade was going to cost for postage, so not Acers fault.
#21
thanks . just ordered x
#22
Can this disc only upgrade your Vista installation or is it a full windows 7 disc that can be installed on a clean machine?
#23
its full verision so you need to backup driver files just incase and dont forget to backup your vista on your acer first with 3 dvds mines already been sent out done it 2 months ago lol big signs in comet when you buy a pc mine was £12.78

My order is the same, gonna chase them up soon I think.
#26
they only take payment when they ship it - so payment will be pending until then
#27
I have the windows 7 upgrade option (ACER) but i am not even sure i want to bother with it, i have just got used to vista!
Is W7 going to be that much better? should i get it anyway just cos it's cheap? can i ebay it?
#28
Cheers great deal, got a Acer Desktop in early July and they said there was a Windows 7 upgrade but i completely forgot about it! Not bad at all!
#29
It is quite cheeky these manufacturers charging postage and at such extortionate rates too! I hope it comes hand delivered by a group of angels for that sort of money.

I hope anyone who bought a laptop with the pretense of the 'free upgrade' was made aware of this. I know my parents didn't realise when they ordered their Dell and I can't say I noticed..

Still better than the RRP though depending on how you look at it.

I'm voting it cold as what was promised as a free upgrade costs £12 hows that free and covering P+P wouldn't cost anything like £12 my Sis bought an Acer 2 weeks ago at PCworld the one off the TV and i kicked up that much of a fuss about them claiming it to be a free upgrade that they have paid for it.
#31
Just ordered thanks. Great deal.
#32
Long shot but does anyone have any idea whether this will be an acer upgrade disk (i.e only usable on acer's) or a generic copy that can be used on any machine?

Friend bought an acer, gave me the upgrade so ideally when it arrives i will have the ability to upgrade to w7 for a measly £13. Worth a shot i thought anyway, guess time will tell.
#33
have made the order. Now for the wait... Keep us posted when you get your copy.

well its pretty much down to the manufacturer and not the retailer, no?

i'd have rather have to pay £13 for the upgrade then not have one at all. You're lucky you bought an acer and only pay £13, i've heard certain other manufacturers charge double that.
#35
hello,

i have eligible laptop.

i paid the 12 quid

and i will let you know in 2 weeks est del time

magz

thanks alot for this

I've been using Windows 7 on my Dell mini for over a month now. it is very very good, in fact I think its good as windows 98se was in its time. Vista was just an experiment. windows 7 is the final output.
#37
its not a scam, i did this a few weeks ago, Made payment on Saturday awaiting my upgrade. its advertised on lots of acer sales sites and in acers own website.
#38
Mines on order but the company sending them out only take Visa or Mastercard for payment....No good for solo card holders or some other types of debit cards....It is correct and ok about mediamentorcorp.com .....When I got my laptop they took a preorder and I've ad good comunication from them.

is that on a netbook? w7 starter or premium?
any notes on the performance as i'm looking at getting samsung a netbook with w7 but don't want it to be sluggish, i guess upgrading to 2gb ram would eradicate that though.
