Add storage to your Playstation3 (without voiding warranty) or laptop with this 2.5" internal hard disk drive.

This is the cheapest price I could find for a 2.5" 320gb. It's a 5,400 but I've seen some speed comparisons and the differences are negligible - BUT if you're bothered then you can shell out an extra £30 notes for a faster disk.

A quick look around the main component suppliers shows prices are generally:-

120GB approx £35 - £40
160GB approx £45 - £50
250GB approx £50 - £60
320GB approx £70 - £80
500GB approx £85 - £100

If anyone knows of anywhere there's some meaty 2.5" HDDs on offer then please post. My 60GB PS3 is gradually filling up with PlayTV content!

DUPLICATION OF AT LEAST TWO OTHER DEALS ON HERE!!!

Hi There..

£ 49.99 for 320Gb 5400 rpm is not bad, but if you really concern about the drive speed spend extra tenner for 7200 rpm drive (with 16MB cache).

I replace this drive in my macbook pro, and sounds great!!!!

I bought the 250G version for my PS3 a while ago. The installation process is painless as long as you take care with the big blue screw that holds the HDD caddy in place, as the screw seems to be made of the softest metal known to man.

Who are 'the main component suppliers'? Seems to me that this drive is £50-£55 at most of what I would consider the main suppliers (dabs, ebuyer etc), certainly not £70-£80....

Also a few shops including Tesco are selling external hard drives for (250GB) £40 at the moment - swap the hard discs and you have a 250GB Playstation drive plus a 60GB external backup drive for £40.

Hasn't this been posted before?? Sure I've seen it on here more than once already? Good deal though, especially if combined with RAC discount and Quidco.
#7
Any good for the XBox? Can the HD casing be opened to add a new drive?!

Answer: Yes, therefore I'm expiring this for duplication.

Don't forget to get a casing for your old PS3 drive to turn it into a portable hard drive.

Can get them off ebay cheap

Can then use it to transfer files from your PC to the PS3 (Once it is formatted properly)

I thought you could re-post if the original deal was over a month old and the last one was. :?
#12
You can. Theres nothing wrong with this post. Seems people are so quick to slam someones deal. When its quite clearly correct with the rules given.

Not read the rules on this but whats the point in posting the exact same deal thats already been posted regardless of how old it is?

Personally I bought the 320gb 7200 rpm version, scorpio black with 5 year warranty for £60 from ebuyer. There are 2 types of the 'black' available; one with a free-fall senson and one without. A much faster and reliable drive - however it was for a laptop where the speed is apparent, not sure about a PS3.
#16
its the same one that ebuyer sell for £1.21 more. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136790/show_product_reviews

Because thats the rules. Simply some deals go unoticed, if it helps someone get a better deal who cares.

I'm happy it got reposted as I must have missed it!

Can anyone report if the performance will be noticeable with the slower speed? Not sure how much the PS3 does read/writing. Will it be fast enough to pull data off for Play TV?

I'm fairly certain it doesnt, have never even heard anyone mention that it does.

Ive read its hardware not the hard drive which contains the information to play the games.
#22
The ps2 compatibility shouldn't be affected as it is a chip in the ps3 that allows it, It was left out of the newer ones due to the cost as far as i'm aware. Also not too sure about using a 7200 rpm drive in the ps3 as i would think it would put a little more stress on the psu.

I'd be more worried about heat implications. As the ps3 would be producing more heat from the psu and hard drive itsself. Unless you invest in a cooler on the back.
#24
thanks for the repost on this, without it i wouldn't have even considered adding more space to my PS3
#25
Hard drive does not affect PS2 compatibility, it's simply for storage (and Operating system).

I remember reading that 7200rpm drives invalidate warranty, not sure how Sony would monitor this. Is true about heat though, both 360 and PS3 run very hot already due to the advanced hardware.
#26
So the current drive is 5400rpm then? I am happy with 5400rpm and with the RAC and Quidco discount it will drop another £7ish off this price so better than the ebuyer deal.

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me where I can get a cheap IDE 250GB 2.5" Laptop hard drive from. I've tried microdirect, good price around £60 all in, but no stock. Your efforts are greatfully appreciated.

Well look out for this being reposted on 6th Feb then! Maybe without any reference to people putting in the leg work and actually finding this deal in the first place!

Just think it's plain rude to copy someone elses deal and pass it off as your own. Even if you are trying to put it back in the public eye, I would think it polite to mention that someone else has already posted it.

hi people looking into investing in one of these as its a very good price but does it involve copying the operating system from the old drive or is just a case of putting the new drive in and formatting it.

Yes there is not much to it, the ps3 will recognise it is a new drive and begin the process of the format etc. There is no need to copy the OS from the old drive.

just thought id post a link up to all the compatibe hard drives with the ps3 hope it helps someone
