I think the rac discount doesn't apply to electronics. I tried to buy that memory on play and it rejected the coupon code.

Well Varsity (also 5%) works for sure as I used it the other day to buy a few PC related bits :)

Great for those of us with new Virgin Media Netbooks!

DAMN DAMN! Got the PNY ram from play.com for around 12 quid and not its much more expensive.

It was 800MHz ram as well. Sold NC10 now - but need another 2GB stick for my other laptop now.

I bought two of these from play.com last month to upgrade my Sony AR21S to 4gb. Paid £31 for the two and sold the old ram (2 x1gb) for the same price on eBay so the upgrade cost me literally nothing.

It amazes me how many mugs are on eBay :-)

Heat and rep added as this is a very good price. I wish I found this before I bought mine off play.com - I could have used my Amazon's £15 voucher.

Are these the same or of worse spec than those sold on Crucial?

Will this work with Dell Mini 9 and Inspiron 6400?

I already have 2 GB on the Inspiron 6400 - I think is 2 x1 GB. In need of upgrading to 4 GB.

If you are not sure and want peace of mind, use Crucial:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Aspire%20One%20%28D150%29&pl=Acer&cat=RAM

Yes more expensive at £19.54 delivered but for the sake of 4 pounds, you can get the peace of mind of guaranteed compatibility from Crucial (and lifetime warranty).

As for these modules, I think they would probably work in your Acer Aspire. But no guarantee. You pay the money and take the risk yourself. :-D

Yes this will fit in both Dells. The mini 9 only has one sim slot so this single will replace whatever you have at the moment. The Inspiron 6400 has two slots and if you want 4Gb then you will need two of these 2Gb sticks to replace the existing 2 x 1Gb.

To summarise, you will need to order three lots of this item to get 2Gb on your Mini and 4Gb on your 6400 :)

I tripped up when I bought a 2GB stick for the NC10 as this ram is 667mhz

The RAM the netbook can handle is 800mhz (the stick included with the NC10 is and the 800mhz is on Crucial)

Although it might not make a lot of difference, it might be something to think about.

According to Orcalogic, this is the memory they recommend for a Dell Mini 9:

DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

The memory listed by OP is:

Kingston 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM

I too am looking for the best option to upgrade my recently purchased Dell Mini 9 to 2GB of RAM, if anyone can advise?

Thanks.

Cheekster.

yes, but I beleive it's clocked down to 667, I have a stick of RAM from my old NC10, it's actually 667.

And my Black NC10 has 800Mhz ram, strange.

I thought max on inspiron 6400 was 2gb ( 2 x 1gb)?

Nope - the Inspiron 6400 runs the Intel 945 chipset, and hence can cope with 4GB just fine.

Bear in mind you'll only see three-and-a-bit GB though, if you're running a 32-bit version of Windows.

No difference whatsoever - the Atom limits the memory speed to 533 MHz, so you gain no benefit from using anything quicker.

I have two Dell MIni 9 netbooks and both have been upgraded with 667Mhz ram just fine. Why does this work? The mini, just like any netbook or notebook, downclocks it to the required 533Mhz.

I thought it might. Good to know you've tried and tested 667Mhz RAM without any problems. Before I order the Kingston RAM mentioned by the OP, is there any other RAM for around the same price (upto £20) that I should consider for better performance?

Thanks.

Cheekster.

Any better performing RAM at more cost (since you mentioned upto £20) will still get clocked down so it's not worth paying more. What you should be asking is if the same spec ram here can be found any cheaper and the answer would currently be no. As such, you should grab a stick before they run out and/or bump the price up :)
#29
if i understand this correctly, order this ram for NC10 as its a cracking price and dont worry about 800mhz ram?
