It would be good if you didn't have to connect to your PC. Having to leave your PC on all the time kind of defeats the object for me:x Good price though

Hot.

4% cashback available via topcashback. Same as quidco but no admin fee and sometimes offers more than quidco. Also has a highest cashback guarentee meaning they'll match other sites if you find it higher elsewhere. They also offer a bonus scheme where you can get up to 10% extra if you regularly get a decent amount of cashback. I think they have a referral scheme too.

Is this actually the case - in spite of the previous long thread, I assume this too, but it was never clarified & I am still none the wiser

Here is the original thread, in the vain hope that someone will read it, instead of the same things being repeated:

"Simply install Skype software, and connect to friends and family around the world thanks to US Robotics easy to use cordless Skype Dual Phone.

That would suggest to me that the pc is needed.

For Skype, you need the PC to be on and connected to the Internet.
For Normal telephone, you do not need the PC.

Ah... that clears that up! That at least does give it some actual value - although DECT phones can be pretty feeble from even the biggest name telephone manufacturers, I know, I have tried more than a few, and Panasonics are head and sholders above the rest.

if anyone is happening to order a laptop such as the eee from cdiscounts this can be obtained for £5... just so you know :p

NB the Cdiscount page makes no mention of being Vista compatible - I hit a similar snag with my Actiontec Skype adaptor!

On the other hand, if anyone can confirm that this works with Vista - this is indeed a good deal.

White.

It does work with Vista but need to download new software. Here is the link

I can't tell from the details... to use this for normal phone AND skype - does the pictured base unit plug need to plug into BOTH a) the phone line, and b) the USB port of your PC ?

Problem is my PC is nowhere near my phone socket - I'm on wireless 100% of the time as a result.

Guessing that the little phone cradle's don't plug into USB, and it's all via the base unit??

Thanks
#15
hi, do these use AAA or AA battery?

AAA (thanx ilikedeals)

I had the two handset package - which ment it needed three plugs! To make a skype call you need your pc on, to make a phone call you need two plugs on. There are lots of cables and really it's not worth the hastle. Just buy a £2 usb skype phone and use wireless landline phone.
The call quailty isn't as great as many people make out either.

I wouldn't recomend this sorry
#18
I ordered mine when it was posted before. Great phone, doesnt feel cheap :whistling:

I had a small problem with it though. When you connect it the phone speaker becomes your main computer speaker so no sound from your computer speakers unless you change the settings. What I did was setting a priority in Skype settings to use the phone only when connected. So now I have my computer speakers working fine and I connect the base only when I need to call someone.

They come with 2 AAA rechargable batteries.

Edit: @jezjones - are you sure it's AA? I am looking at them right now and it is AAA.

Hi I have the same question as s1m0nc, I am 100% wireless to and my phone sits on the opposite end of the room to the base station. Is there any way this can be used without requiring the usb wire going to the pc?
And does anyone know if this is Mac compatible, it looks like a good deal but need these features.

Many Thanks

may be true ! only if you get anything from TCB. i have used both TCB and QUIDCO.
i have done everything as they say on website IE test tracking clear cookies ETC ETC....
after 9 months i am still waiting , TCb don't even bother replying anymore. so i recommend stay clear of TCB.
on the other hand i have not had any problems with quidco always paid up..they do charge £5 admin fee (only if you have earned) for whole year..

I bought this the other day.. works great, only when someone calls in via the landline there is no Caller ID displayed. Also when I look at missed calls, nothing is recorded there either. I presume this isn't normal?
#22
if they made one that plugs into ethernet port of router in stead of usb of a running PC, i'd buy one now
#23
you must check the price for the one with the Ethernet port and then say that. its like me saying on a thread of 32" telly that if they had made this telly in 60" I would have bought it,

I bought it last time and quality is excellent even if you think using it like a twin headset cordless phone than still its lot cheaper
#24
if they made one that has a direct line to Elvis and Master Yoda in stead of being routed via the Death Star, i'd buy one now
#25
show me a decently priced ethernet one and I'll eat my sombrero

Me too.

My internet radio doesn't need a PC to connect to stations. I don't see why I should have to fire my computer up just to use this. Once you've done that you may as well sit in front of it and make the call.
#27
The main hub has: mains, usb cable and connection to the phone line. (so either your PC needs to be next to the hub or you need an extension cable for the phone)
The phone has: its own mains

;-)

... I know I'll phone my brother and chat via Skype with my new phone... hmmmm... (turns on PC - and sees he's not online)... I guess I'll have to phone him on the land line and ask him to turn on his PC

It is a good price for DECT phone alone. If you have multiple handsets you can share contacts - the shared contacts are stored in the base.
The another feature I would like to mention here is support for dialing contacts through another provider. What I mean by that is you dial a number for e.g. 18500 and then press and hold a phone book key which gives you an option to select a contact. If you select then it will be dialed through 18500 provider. Which is a useful function and have not seen this in other DECT sets.

Great deal, just went for one. Thanks OP
#31
Can this be used to call with Voipstunt?
#32
mine came yesterday great phone for the price even without the skype option which also works well for me too, thanks to the OP
#33
This DECT wireless function does not interfere Wi-Fi or blutooth wireless.
#34
Its reduced to £5.00 now, however it is Out of Stock !!
