surveilance system or transfer VCR videos onto your computer se one of these. If you went on ebay you cant get less than £20 if buying within UK.
Ive been looking for one of these and they are good. You will notice that the reviews only complain about the software. Dont worry about that as you can get free software of download.com and other websites.

Thanks Hope this helps

I'd be very interested to know how you have this setup, the type of camera you use.

Ideally I'd like to buy a cheap 7" eee pc and setup a home survelience kit, not sure how good this would especially with night vision cameras.

I have used and tested dozens of this type of CCTV DVR they all seem to do the same 25fps but across 4 channels you get 6.25 fps so they do not run in real time, and some eat HDD space with the software provided,
so you will need to find software that uses h264 codec, and also note the frame of the recording most of the one i tested gave 352 x 288 per channel but a few gave 352 x 288 for all 4 channels and were next to useless, and despite my negative view i'm still voting hot on price as a stand alone CCTV DVR is 20 times the price

on original post, at the top of the page there is 2 arrows, red for hot and blue for cold.
if you want to add "rep" to the poster, (usually for VERY good deals, or well thought out ones), then click on white mushroom cloud thing by the persons avatar.

EDIT: and you quote by remembering to press the quote button under someones post and it will appear as a quote in you reply post. preferably before you answer the question, then it wont look as daft as this does... ah well, its sunday.

Same as DealExtreme since they are also based in Hong Kong.

I bought one of these from Deal Extreme about a year ago. It never worked. I had a look around on the support forums to see if there were any fixes, but I didn't find any. This was using Vista, so perhaps there have been some updated drivers since then. I would check the reviews at Deal Extreme first to see how other people have got on.

Deal Extreme also comes from Honkgong and takes betweeen 1 week and 5 weeks. You might as well get it direct from Ebay/Hongkong seller cheaper and don't pay extra for the $/£ exchange rate.

A user at Deal Extreme recommended Supervisioncam (tho' he mis-spelled it). You can download it from the author at www.supervisioncam.de and use it freely, but it costs 40euro to register. It looks to have had ancient roots, but still seems to be under development. I haven't tried it, but it looks reasonable.
