I stumbled across this little enclosure which was absolutely perfect for my needs and was amazed at the price. I wanted a USB2 AND Esata enclosure for a spare 1TB drive I have. I knew taking it round to other places they may not have an esata external socket, so at least now I can take it safely in the knowledge it will work.

I am aware there are portable 2.5 drives out there, but I thought this is a great option for those wanting some flexibility for an old drive.

Cheers.

Not really.

At most they are a couple of quid cheaper.

I did quite a bit of research last week as I was going to buy one.

The one posted by the OP was also the best value I could find.

Looks a better option and cheaper.

Jeez, that enclosure design is ancient. I bought a couple of those back in the day when USB2/FW400 enclosures had just come out. Cost about the same then. Still going strong, but about to be ditched. Not worth the electricity for 20GB of hard drive space when usb pens do the job just as well.

Scan says that takes only 1TB so wondering how it is a better option?

Also, to the last post...20gb? are you referring to a HDD you have? Good if it's lasted you that long, I hope to get the same from mine!

Also I thought adding in the bit to give you esata external sockets in the ebuyer package was a nice touch, I've already got one but now can put this new one in my server.

i just bought a usb3/esata enclosure on ebay for 15ukp - well not an enclosure but one of those dock things. fits 2 hard disks, even 2.5"

These have been this price for ages. Worth noting these don't come with a cable - which can set you back the same price again for a decent length one :) And cheaper ones really do make them slower - it's not like HDMI cables ;)

Sej7278,
Would you be so kind as to share an item number for that. It sounds ideal for my needs.

looks like the seller has removed the usb3, 5gbps bit from the listing, lying git! i haven't received it yet so can't comment but suspect its usb2.

# 390249375182 but there's loads of this kind of thing on ebay (ebuyer even have one).

no if you read the listings on ebay all of the cheap cases are only compatible with up to 500GB HDDs. Your looking at over £10 maybe even £15 for a crappy one that will work with a 1tb and you'll be waiting a couple weeks for it to be shipped in from China. So this is a good price

Thanks, I did my research and really couldn't find the exact same benefits for the same price.

As for being at this price for ages...I usually use hotuk to search before I buy anything...this thread would have saved me a lot of trawling the internet! So hopefully someone else will benefit. Thanks.
