Today I found a different style of SD card reader. These are white with a clear cap and the card goes in the side. What makes these better that the other card readers at poundland is that they seem to read SDHC cards. I tried a 4GB SDHC card in one and it seemed to work OK. The old style card readers would not recognise SDHC cards at all.

Poundland never seem to put prices on their things. One to avoid then...

i would assume if it doesnot say on item then it should be a £1

I am using one of those white ones for a week. Its build is good but sometimes it gives write protect error when I try to put data on it. Yes it is 1 pound.

I got write protect errors with my first one but I just bought another one and that seems OK. I've just taken one apart. The errors may be caused by a less than wonderful write protect switch mechanism.

You can always count on at least one wag asking what the price is in a poundland shop. predictable or what!

Thank the lord for posters like TigerTony and Marsh 5000.

They're a comfort in dark times.

I've had two of these now, in both cases the shells have just broke up inside my bag. They keep doing the business with my cards though, and are actually faster than the SD card reader thats integrated into my laptop!!

Since the DealExtreme device is the same price delivered, I can't really regard this as a hot deal though, sorry.
#16
I am a deal extreme fan but you do have to wait a week or so to get the stuff.
#17
Is there anyone left in the world without access to at least one card reader?
#18
Funny thing is its not always a pound in a pound shop, the big ones are, but local run non big brand pound shops have sections where things cost more.

Someone I knew went into a pound shop and the dearer section at the back and took a mountain bike, went to counter and gave them a pound and got shouted at lol
#19
The SDHC reader at DealExtreme is $3.36 (£1.75ish).

My Poundland one doesn't work properly though.

I bought one of the grey one that is shorter but wider. So far works very well with 6gb micro sdhc
#21
All the Poundland readers are SDHC compatible, and flimsily built, it has to be said. Poundland also has a clear plastic stubby bell-shaped reader to add to its burgeoning design range.
#22
I bought one of the bell shaped ones and it works great. Strangely OSX says it only works up to 12Mb/s but under Linux I can read at 25Mb/s and write at 12Mb/s.
#23
Does it actually say SDHC on it or just sd?
#24
Got one of these white ones with the card slot in the side at lunchtime.

Works well... it says on the packaging

Cards Supported:
SD, SD-HC, MMC, RS-MMC, RS-MMC DV, MMC Plus, MMC Mobile.

USB 2,0 of course.
#25
Cheers got 1 today for my SDHC card!

Heat and rep added!

This is still available - although people report mixed results using 'em - can't go wrong for a pound. Double Bump
