looking at all the cheap reduced items as you walk to the till and it had single usb cables for sale there

this is a bargin as you can allways find a use for them

Currys and the like charge £10-£15 just for 1 so a pack of 3 for 99p is excellent.

good deal this.

hi,
can someone throw some light on the matter: how do the companies like dixon (currys, pcworld) manage to rip off people by charging for such a cable @ £14.99. I myself used to work in pcworld and know that the cost of their pcline usb cable they sold for £14.99 was not more than 30p to them!!!
is there no law regarding markup prices?? or as long as the company pay their tax % and VAT to govt, the govt makes this daytime robbery legit?

Marian this is rip off britain they try to rip us off for every penny they can get away with.

I currently work for PCWorld (please, do feel sorry for me) and can confirm they sell basic-name USB cables for £15. I noticed a bin of scart leads up the back of the store today. Guess how much? £10? £20? Surely not £30? Nope... £50!!!

They make about £20-£30 margin on most laptops and with the USB cable they get about £12 pure margin on it. Yes, the prices are insane... but people still buy them, so as a company why would the lower the price of something that people are still buying, and know will continue to buy?

When it comes to cables I always voice my opinion on how insane the prices are, but as expected once voice is not enough.

PS. £35 for a 15m ethernet cable too. Or £15 for a 1.3m VGA cable. Or £12.99 for a basic 3.5mm audio lead.

I bought a pack of these, and then later that day went into Currys, they were selling this EXACT SAME PACK, for £44.99!!!!!

I went back to Home Bargains and bought anther pack, as mentioned, always handy to have a few spare

If you do not have a Home Bargains near you take at look at the 99p shops, which are currently doing a pack of 2 A-B leads for 99p.

It probably contributes to the staff salaries as well!

If people are willing to pay the prices, and many obviously are, then why shouldn't they charge whatever they want?

LCD TV's cost LESS to make than CRT's did, that's why all the manufacturers have dropped them, however, LCD;s are now more expensive to buy than their old CRT equivalents, but because "ooh, flat screen" new technology they charge more

BARGAIN!!! i know these type of cables are charge so much in places like currys, they go crazy with the prices its so stupid.

If you haven't got a Home Bargains near to you, the '99p store' is selling packs of 2 USB cables for £99p.

if the UK was not such a rip-off and everything was just "cheap" the there would not be much use for this site....trouble is there are many cons out there and many ace deals so spread the work about this site and save ££££. :whistling:

Good on you guys at TJ Morris (aka HomeBargains), I say!
I recently bought a new HP printer from Staples website, which annoyingly came without a (or is it an?) USB lead.
I was determined not to be ripped off by PCWierd, Carrys, or Cometo etc; as it is obvious that when a printer costs £45-ish, a simple mass-produced cable shouldn't be more than a couple of quids.

Knowing not of the imminent wondrous pricings at HomeBargains, I did hunt and found an eBay-Shop listing at £0.63p incl. P&P. The bargains ARE out there!
