The MS cable allows you to do a one-off transfer between Xbox hard drives - the above is for transferring between an Xbox HD to a PC one - superb way of freeing up HD space on the Xbox by the sounds of it.

Has anyone got one that can offer a review?

how & why

idf like to back my 22k worth of gamer points and saves to my pc so i can then put them on a new HD if mine dies
#5
you can use the migration cable to copy files to the HD off PC, just use a program like xport360 or xplorer360

btw - this is basically the migration cable but looks like an unbranded and unofficial version of it

Your Gamerscore is stored on a server, not the hard-drive. The hard-drive stores game-saves, demos etc.

Your gamerscore is linked to your live account and thus that information is backed up to their server every time your online. Should you start again on another harddrive you can recover your gamertag and its metadata from live.

This product would be good for backing up game saves however. Oblivion particularly.

Will this erase the contents of the HDD after backing up the data or just copy it to the PC? I'm wanting to backup and transfer the content from my 20gb HDD to my 60gb HDD but retain the data on the 20gb HDD.

In theory yes. No-ones actually got one though yet to check

If this can do what it says on the tin, this deserves to get very hot, very quickly. Only if you can transfer game saves of course?
#16
Hmm, does anyone know if this would work for putting an updated option file on for pes for correct kits etc.?
#17
www.360player.com seems to confirm it DOES transfer saves. This is an excellent deal as the nearest best thing is like £25+ and an Xsata.

An excellent price and Dealxtreme do it again.

Was my first thought, but the link above seems to confirm it does (read the manual guides)

A few months back I upgraded to the 60gb. I phoned M$ up for the free transfer cable, it was either 120gb only or they were out of stock. I had to use my memory card to back up the game saves and transfer them, also I had to redownload all my content (A real pain). The official cable they wanted a fortune for on ebay. Even though its unofficial £5 is a bargain and well worth it, even if your not even thinking yet of upgrading your drive.
#20
Go here for the manuals, http://www.360player.com.

I use a Datel Xport, but this appears to be a similar device, and the software they use also looks almost identical to Xport 360, the software used for the Datel Xport.

You can backup and restore the contents of your harddisk with one of these. A word of caution though, don't mess about with the files on Partition 1 and 2 of your harddisk, they contain system files and if these are lost or damaged it will cause problems with your harddisk, even to the degree of not being able to get it working again.

Yup, as long as you know what you're doing. The contents of a 360 HDD is not PES 2009 - Saved Data, it's all funny numbers

Yes but, and it's a big but, you will get banned as M$ assigns a code to all Downloaded content and if you're account does not show as having purchased something, yet you have it, you'll get the ban hammer.
#22
For Pro Evo yes it would.
I use the xploder mem card reader and link it up with xport360, so it would be just the same except you wouldnt have to copy the data back to the hd on completion.
#23
Can I use this to copy a PC harddisk full of MP3s to the HDD of the Xbox 360?
#24
i had an xbox pro with 20gb hard drive that got the RROD and i was unable to fix and it was out of microsoft warranty ( it had already been fixed for RROD by microsoft previously).

I bought a new Arcade as it was cheaper and i didnt need any of the extras that came with a better console as i already had them.

when i put my HDD into my new console i had to recover the gamertag which was ok put it saved to the internal memory of the console not the HDD. I have since found that all my game saves on the HDD are corrupt. Downloaded content, demos and arcade games i have purchased are fine just the game saves are corrupt.

I can get a few minutes of play off my old xbox so i was wondering if i use this cable to backup saves to my pc if i then transfer back when on my new xbox will they still be corrupt. even so i will still get this to back up my saves to prevent this happening again.

I'm still confused as to what I could use this for. The xplorer stuff sounds interesting but a bit confusing lol

Its basically for doing naughty things, aswell as the obvious of transferring your downloads, ie rockband tracks, demos, vids, etc.

For instance with the xploder software you can download game saves, copy them to your profile load up the save and 9 times out of 10 get a wad load of gamerscore.

I use mine for evo, ive thought about maybe doing a rockband scam cause they get too much of my hard earned lol.
#27
Dont quote me on this but surely now that digi game downloads are out you could do it with them?
#28
I wanna do naughty things! tell me more lol
#29
Like I said in theory you could download arcade games, xbox originals, themes, rockband tracks, and of course the game save cheat.
I presume that going online with these games would send the heads up the xbox that your profile doesn't have these, but i don't know???
All I know is it puts all the kits on Evo to make it two times better than fifa!
#30
I thought all the content was tied to the gamertag/console
#31
Ordered, Cheers. :) Worth a punt.

True but if your not online with it, then they wouldnt know?

Like I said, I myself have never tried so I really cant elaborate anyway? Just a thought????

Not got mine yet but I managed to find this page in Google cache. Links to some sort of application and a PDF manual alongside a picture of the transfer kit.

Not sure if it's the right thing - maybe you can give it a go and let us know.

I've combined them into one rar and put it on RapidShare in case the original goes down.
