It is a keyring sized memory card reader. Its supports SD and MMC memory cards.

I thought it was quite handy if you have a computer that does not have a built in memory card reader and you take lost of photos on a memory card using a digital camera ETC this means you just plug the device into your usb port and then the memory card into the device, simple.

Had laods in my local poundalnd.

I've seen some shocking things on forums over the past ten years or so- but never ever have I seen a mod make a mistake like that.
That is seriously unforgivable, if this site has any quality control whatsoever, they will relieve said of mod their duties immediately.
Exposing unsuspecting users to malware- does it get any worse?

I think you'll find the link is genuinely registered to Poundland as Poundland.co.uk

http://whois.domaintools.com/poundland.co.uk

Don't click through from there, the problem lies with poundland themselves.

oh right you never check links then? I thought this site had some sort of quality control but clearly not.
What would happen if a member linked to a virus-ridden webpage? I would expect that they would be banned forever- so what is going to happen in this case? Nothing?

I took a look at this risky link as I am running Linux and an uncommon web browser - and my computer is entirely fineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczkljfineokudhaodufaodufihasdufihaiufhaoudihodiufhkklkdsjlaisdlaisjdlaishdip;uahgdpiauhdpiauhdpijubhczklj

while we are on the topic of card readers, i have a built in one and Vista - which refuses to read any thing bigger than 2 gb ? would one of THese help ?
#25
I bought one of these on eBay for 99p from Hong Kong, and it did the job well until a while ago when it stopped working. Replaced it a few months back with this one from Poundland. They look identical, and the Poundland reader is working fine so far.

Considering the cost, it does the job well. In fact it reads my SanDisk high-speed SD cards, whilst the built-in card reader on the front of my Epson All-In-One Printer/Scanner won't read anything faster than the standard ones.

If a member posted a simple known link like that, of course we wouldn't ban them!

With a well known and trusted name like Poundland, you would expect their domain name to be Poundland.co.uk, which it is according to WhoIs, so I wouldn't have checked the link myself no.

I doubt very much that any other site with common and regular links would do that either. Like www.amazon.co.uk for example, it's so commonly used that I think anyone would just type it in without a second thought.

I assume you wouldn't get someone to check plain merchant web addresses you type into your address bar before clicking 'go' or hitting 'enter', so a good reason to keep an up to date anti virus/spyware programme running on your computer to protect against this kind of thing.

The malware is hosted on the Poundland domain name, so it is ultimately their responsibility.

However, as it appears to now be showing on both domains, the merchant link has been removed for the time being.

Cheap, but it works!

Which is more than can be said for the more expensive branded usb card reader I had before this one. (for anyone interested, it was a Kingston Mobilelite - apparently it is a well known faulty product, yet Kingston have not responded to my technical support request.)
Another brand name that isn't worth a damn.

My train was cancelled this morning due to faulty signals so I've taken away their operating license, scrapped the locomitive and shot the driver...
...but you just sound totally unreasonable.

Poundland used to have 3 or 4 different models in stock and at one point only 1 read SD-HC, though it never stated. Not sure if that is still the case or if all are now updated versions.

i edited the post again yesterday to just remove a link all together like my original post because as i originaly thought what is the point of a link if the product is instore only?

I also re-edited the image file to that posted earlier in the post as it is extreamly similar if not the same product.

But be careful the image may cause your computer to spontaneously explode. :giggle:

If you search 'Poundland' on google poundland.com comes up first as a genuine site, but it is marked as potentially harmful by google and it wont let you click through to it. I think the site is either fake or has been hacked.

Bought some of these ages ago, identical looking device has been in poundland for a few years. The two I bought 2 years ago are almost identical to the one I bought a 6 months back apart from the fact that they now work with SDHC cards which wasn't mentioned on the packaging.

There is also one of a different design in poundland which is also SDHC compatible.

I bought several a few months ago and they were all USB 2 - it says so on the back, moulded into the plastic.
