Thats just inviting an accident on your keyboard lol. I ban anyone from so much as sneezing near mine. Its its a novel idea but i will stick to using the microwave, its safer. :p

Not too keen on having to drink from a small metal mug, I prefer my best dad in the world mug! I can see this going in the bin rather quickly.

Anyone know the diameter of the cup/base? Mostly wondering how much tasty beverage you could get in the cup, and also whether I could use the base with my own cup. Girth is everything...

99% of standard mugs are not flat, they have a little rim to stop the mug burning the table etc. So most standard mugs will never make contact with the hot plate.
