Indeed, they are normally twice this price!
I don't think this is the same brand as the ION one that is normally around the £70 mark though, it seems to be Novatech's own brand. I'm sure there's not much difference though.
I used to work for Novatech in Portchester. It's unlikely to be Novatech branded - just a generic turntable... I'll head over there and check it out first but they were definately a lot more expensive... hopefully this will be happening to them all :)
Well the original ION model can be bought from Amazon for £69.99 now, so it's already come down in price a fair bit.

Yes, but they still seem to be around the £100 mark.
Comes with no software which is really the only advantage of this over connecting your old stereo system up to the line input of your sound card.
So I've got to vote cold as I have a stereo with record deck, tape dec, radio etc all of which can be recorded by the freeware software that novatech say is available on the net. So I can do exactly what this does without taking up another USB port and it costs me nothing (well £1.00 for the lead!)

Agree totally - use an output from your hifi/player (often phono sockets) put it into the line in on your soundcard, (usually a jack) and you can record what you like (Records or Cassettes) for the cost of the lead, without any extra hardware. There is loads of software available free or at cost, and I suppose you get what you pay for (Things like autodetecting the break between tracks and noise reduction)

I suppose it depends on your level of technical know-how, as for some just sticking in a USB is easier. Also, people might not have their stereo and PC near each other (mine aren't even in the same room) so that solution wouldn't work for them. :) And, plus, some people might not even have a turntable anymore!
For what it's worth, I just fitted a pre-amp to a top end Sony deck (80's) that I got from Freecycle and this does the job VERY nicely.
Hate to think what the reproduction of this item will be, compared to my set-up.

Very easy to do.
You can always purchase a plug-in pre amp if preferred but still a cheaper option than this.
