Much faster than wireless, and totally stable - 200 mbps and with better reviews than most of the slightly cheaper ones:

D-Link’s PowerLine Homeplug AV Network Starter Kit consists of two adapters that use standard electrical wiring to create or extend a network.

You can connect any device such as computers, routers, media players, gaming consoles or storage devices at speeds of up to 200 Mbps over electrical wires, making this medium ideal for streaming high quality HDTV signals and enjoying music and games anywhere in your house.

Advanced technology built into these adapters makes them more resistant to electrical interference from other household appliances, so users can fully benefit from the maximum transmission speeds.

The adapters also include Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms to ensure a lag-free experience for delay-sensitive applications such as gaming or Internet TV.

All that is required for set-up is pushing a button on the side of the device. This also ensure secure transmissions between PowerLine adapters. In addition, these adapters are among the first in their category to comply with the European Union directive for office and domestic devices (EuP), applicable since 7th January 2010: when idle, they enter a standby mode that requires less than 1 Watt.

Similar but cheaper at ebuyer.
i need somethign along these liens for my freesat box to enable iplayer - anyone got any cheaper version?

i know there are on ebay but have had mixed reviews.
@theprof - did you read my mind? these are pass thru too!
Be aware that these don't always work in old houses. They were great at my old place, moved again and they are just crap. Can only get about 5Mb through them now, makes my 50Mb broadband useless! Back to wireless for me, which is working fine.

that is fantastic..
Are you sure these are passthrough - doesn't look very passthrough from the picture? Price is similar to others that come up at this price.

The pass through ones are the one on ebuyer at the link below not the D-link ones in the picture above...
Struggling to see why these are cold. Are they (as in the exact model) available elsewhere cheaper?

I've used a couple of different brands and there definitely is a difference in reliability / performance (Zyxel / Billion)
Decisions decisions....

Pay £59 for the D-Link DHP-307AV/B
Pay £50 for Ebuyer
Pay £50 for Ebuyer

The ebuyer passthrough ones could be a problem for me as they are large in size and one of the power points is mounted just above my desk, so I don't think this one will work.

I am thinking we are likely to get better support for the D-link ones, on firmware updates etc.

The D-link ones also go on about being low power and energy efficient which the ebuyer ones don't mention.

I am definitely swaying towards the D-link ones...
