I haven't used a newsreader in years. Does anyone still make them? Xnews was the last reader I used but since then most of the apps I started seeing where only aimed at binary downloaders and I used to like Usenet for text posting.

I've used Newsbin Pro for about 10 years. One click to download the NZB file and it's done.

You don't need newsreaders in the traditional sense, that's not how people use it now, if they're downloading. They'll use NZB files and apps such as http://sabnzbd.org/

I expected this deal to bomb, but true to the nature of this site, I still wanted to offer the people who can make use of it the chance.

It's a dark art usenet or commonly called newsgroups

I know ppl who be used Internet fit years and can't handle newsgroups

But they are the holy grail, you usually get a full speed of download if the file exists

I apologise for being a noob, but what exactly is usenet used for? I tried google, and the technical stuff just went over my head

USENET was devised in 1979, and is a serious of newsgroups on various subjects, essentially an email bulletin board system, later when binary groups were invented, people started to use various newsgroups to upload data, for a long time now you are able to get the latest movies, games, cds via newsgroups.

http://lifehacker.com/5905756/is-usenet-safer-than-bittorrent

Anyway you don't have to use Usenet for piracy you can use it to get your favourite TV shows, again there can be legal ramifications to that too.

Thank-You, I was hoping it was something to make my internet download speed a lot higher :(

So is downloading from usenet traceable, even if you use an SSL connection?

remember about this last week and signed up, still active deal.

Got a confirmation email within 60 seconds, works great.

FYI - BT allow their customers to download through them at up to 180kBps free of charge. With my software on my mac I am able to combine my BT and now XSUsenet accounts and I can max out my slow 2.5mbit broadband connection. Very happy, thanks OP.

Paying to download pirate software... just use P2P for free
Looks good, thanks for posting (sorry I missed the other one speed007)
Cheers mate, just swapped from astraweb... saves me another £3 odd a month!
4p a month cheaper than this deal for exactly the same service... only no unlimited online storage with LiveDrive that you get with this. worth the 4p in my mind :D

I put deal below a month ago and I had nothing but some stupid comments from user called "brainsys"

I have used a number of providers and have just cancelled UNS.
Too many files had missing pieces that even the par2 could not fix.

Any evidence that those missing parts were available on those other providers?

I often see comments on the NZB sites to say incomplete on Astra, Giganews etc which I have been able to download OK on Usenetserver

icstm

I would not use again.
Yes they are cheap, yes they have a search tool, but I did not find that tool particularly good.

I'm not keen on it either but it's handy on occasion.

astraweb is $96 for a year and is better

I beg to differ.

Having been a long time customer of usenetserver, I left for an "astraweb" offer which meant a saving of $4 per month. There is no search or NZB packing tools for DL on astraweb so after a few months decided to go back with usenetserver and pay the extra. Luckily, I found an offer of $10pm, beating the offer price from astraweb by $1pm.

Apart from that I found no difference in the service, retention, completion and DL speeds.

Please quantify why you think astraweb is better?

Probably because he uses it, and only that reason. lol
cant seem to sign, keep getting unable to authorise card. And my cards do work fine.

Thanks for this. I've just cancelled my $40 per quarter account I've had for years and rejoined :)
Not quiet for me. I use AstraWeb SSL on 563 and get trottled.
SSL bypasses the throttle by Virgin. Connect to secure.usenetserver.com and use the port 563. Works for me.
sqweeb
news servers like this used to be awesome and worth paying for, but ever since Virgin Media throttled p2p and newsgroup traffic its just not worth it however cheap it is now.

what nonsense. even when throttled on the lowest package its still 2.5mbps

I easily DL about 5GB a day no problems.
@ rimmer

Ohhh, i can download as many x264 rips as i want.

few mates are with Sky and are much more profilic d/l's than me and they have never had any issues

Yes they do
Thanks.
Yes they do
This deal seems to still be going, i might sign up. Do they still offer the free search facility?
You can cancel at any time. You are paying monthly in advance so, if you want to cancel best to do it day before monthly payment date. You can see clearly what that date is in your account page.
So I can cancel this any time, its not like a minimum of a year or anything? Was thinking of going for this over the newsdemon deal as it has some bad reviews on forums. This seems like a better deal than the astraweb one even though its cold.
