First deal so be gentle....

Further to this tip http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/41630/all-virgin-broadband-xl-customers-c/

The cost of the V+ box has gone down to just £25 (from £150) if you take out the VIP package (thats Evening & Weekend Calls free, XL Boradband and XL TV). I had this confirmed on the phone by a supervisor earlier today and seems to be a new and on-going offer. The £25 also covers the cost of installation too if you are an exisiting customer.

(I am not sure if this is still the case for new customers, maybe someone could confirm or not) but it is definately the case for existing customers.

The V+ box is like the Sky+ box but better in the sense that you can actually record 2 different channels whilst watching a third, is HD ready out of the box ( so no need for a seperate HD box unlike Sky) and can be connected via HDMI for better picture quality.

I currently cannot see this on the VM website so its best to call VM sales if you are wanting to get the deal.

Not if you've been through retentions (spelling  ) and done a deal :whistling:

£37 a month ;-) XL BB & XL TV. But I only have basic telephone, so don't think It'll count towards this deal - will have to give em a call once somethings been announced.

But surely it is, you may be only paying £37 per month but I would ask 2 questions. Firstly is that for 12 months then reverting to another rate, and secondly you've admitted yourself that with a basic telephone you do not qualify so I still stand by what I posted in that anyone phoning up to get this deal will end up paying £85 per month

im paying £37/month for XL Tel, XL Broadband (to 20mb) and XL tv...though i dont have the mobile part as im with Vodafone and reluctant to change at the mo

sometimes it helps to complain if you think you paying too much, though retentions called me this time to offer me this deal as Id been a customer with NTL/now VM for 8 years and didnt have the tv and i guess they want to keep their existing customers. It was a followup to my complaint that for 2 years id been paying 23/mth, now VM decided to change my billing without notifying me...er change of contract terms guys......so they went away and offered this deal if i took the tv.....guess it adds me to another revenue stream with pay for movies, etc....and i have no minimum term contract

We had a VIP install today and the installation was free. We were told we could downgrade the package at any stage, even to the 3-for-£30 bundle and there would be no problem.
#11
Yep install is free (according to the supervisor I spoke to), but I posted the deal to inform people that the V+ box is only £25 now (reduced from £150) when taken with the XL VIP package.

I'm telling you that I've just had one put in and it was void of all costs. A shiny black V+ box with VIP (and extra box etc). I was 'phoned and offered it...

got mine for free as well,

BB M, TV XL, and phone with free weekends and evenings, i also have and additional box upstairs for about £45 a month both with sky sports
#16
this is a good deal considering the amount you have to pay for a sky hd box.

we got duff service and insisted we were leaving virgin

they said they would come and collect the set top box so there it sat in my porch for 2 weeks

then out of the blue we got a call from their ' retentions ' dept

they begged us to stay and we got :

1) our existing box moved upstairs to our bedroom for FREE
2) a FREE V+ box with FREE installation
3) our TV package upgraded to XL for FREE
4) they even credited our a/c with £20 too !!

I am very pleased with V+ but wish we still had SKY One...etc hopefully SKY and Virgin will kiss and make up

Its never been £150 for VIP Customers

The £150 applies to non VIP customers and had the effect of removing the otherwise £10 per month charge for its use. As the VIP is a fixed £85 there is no reduction and never had a £150 charge

For full details go to

When I was offered the reduction they said it would be for 'at least 12 months' and that I could re-negotiate my package at any time. I was pushing for a V+ box but at that time they could do a deal on that.

I've been with TW / VM for 5-6 years and for about the past 3 years been on some sort of negotiated discount/refund rate. All you have to do is price up the competition and then put your figures to their 'retentions' department.

i wanted leave virgin last november and 2 days before i was due to be cut off i got offered

XL tv
L broadband
free evening and weekend calls

i get all that for £20 per month!!!! + my call charges which is about £4 per month

not bad

but their customer service is dire, i have called and spoke to about 12 different people this week about an extra box in the bedroom, i was quoted different installion charges/monthly charges for each call i made i will defo be leaving when this offer runs its course i absolutey hate virgin media but for that price i can just about stomach it but when it goes up ill be reaching for the SKY lol
#23
Worth pointing out that the box is very good, but the only HD channel currently available on Virginmedia (apart their OnDemand stuff) is BBC HD.
The HDMI connection does give a better picture than Scart on standard channels due to HDTV upscaling.

To be honest, if you already have cable TV you shouldn't have to pay anything for install, the techs are loathe to try and tune in a HDTV so it's basically just a box swap and signal test/registration.
I don't know anybody who paid anything when upgrading, though it might be different for a new install.

Absolutely right, this has ALWAYS been £25 standard install for V+ if taken with VIP pack. The £150 was and still is the charge for all new NON-VIP customers.

Vote cold.

I've been with sky, was getting a smashing deal for my line rental from one tel and realy good deal for BB from AOL!
VM customer service can be poor on occasions (even as a Hindu I find the Indian CS seriusly poor) but the deals they offer certainly make up for it. They are much better at retaining customers than Sky. And, but for the loss of Sky 1 etc, offer better value for money.
IMO, as was the case with 3, the only way is forward. There's still a myth abt 3 but those who have it will agree that they are no better/worse than other providers.
With the merger between TW and NTL and their rebranding, things are a bit messed up but it won't get any worse.
If it really doesn't work when you get through to Indian CS (which is usually the case :) ) ask them to transfer you to UK. Also, people have reported that its easier to get thru to UK between 12-4pm and 8-10pm.
VM definitely rocks for me!
Also, retentions/complaints are the best team to get thru to ;)

I have used both the V+ and Sky+/HD boxes. As much as I hate Murdock (and all his dogy dealings) Sky has the better equipment. Sure, the V+ has 3 tuners but the menu system is pants and you do not get many HD channels (no Sky Sports or Movies HD). Sky is much more intuative to use and there is less delay between switching channels.

My current package is:-
Virgin 2MB BB and Telephone (free evening/weekend calls) - £25
Sky HD complete package (Sports, Movies etc) - £31.75

I switched from V+ to Sky when sky were offering the 12months for half price deal (£21.75 + £10 for HD). V+ was dumped after 2 weeks of ownership because I did not get on with it and Sky gave a cracking deal.

Edited to say customer service with both companies is equally terrible. Both love using Indian Call Centres and it is virtually impossible to talk to a Brit unless you are a) calling the Sales line, or b) cancelling. Contacting the Virgin cancelations dept is a black art in itself. BUT. neither are as bad a TalkTalk. TalkTalk really are the worst bunch of hapless idiots I have ever known.

Good Deal - but make sure you try both Sky and Virgin before commiting to either.

We upgraded to vip today aswell, what a fight it was last week to not be charged the £25 in the end!! There customer service is really bad at times. Thankfully the bloke got talking to in the end said it would be free.

The only thing im finding different to the old box is it seems slow changing channel, anyone else find this with the v+ box? (would you believe the first v+ box he brought today was knackered, same with box number 2, luckily had more luck with box 3 :giggle:)

Yep, I know all that. Great innit ? None of it applied to me according to the lady to whom I spoke. I'm just saying what happened in my case. I haven't called yet to downgrade any part of the VIP. I'm not too impressed with the V+ box on the whole actually.

I've had this a month.

They give you old ****** boxes that don't work.

No ITV2, No More4, No E4, No **** all. BBC1 - 4, ITV1-3, BBC News 24.

Freeview equivalent my ass.

When it works.

edit: oh, thought this was the £25 "Freeview via Cable" offering that Virgin offer for those of us in areas without Freeview reception but with cable. Like most of Cambridgeshire.
#30
I warn you now these things whilst haveing good features

are painfully slow
with turning channels over menu's etc.

the boxes just seem to stall all the time

its much slower than the old paces

and theyr slow enough

the sammy boxes blow it out of the water speed wise

im going to wait until they get better boxes than the scientific atlantia v+ boxes

samsung will make some cheap cheap when they think there's enough of a market for them
and ntl will snap theyr hands off

Do u mean the deal where customers who have a phone line get a freeview box for free. If so here's the channel listing:
http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html/sorter/channels_sizem.html

Includes a lot of the channel that u mentioned. Maybe u simply need to reset yr box or maybe there's a fault somewhere!!

So this V+ box is it £25 and thats it no extra rental to pay.

Virgin 2MB BB and Telephone (free evening/weekend calls) - £25
Sky HD complete package (Sports, Movies etc) - £31.75

How did you get the Sky HD package for that price? Seems very good to me
#35
can anyone give me the retentions number please as i seem to have mislaid it. going to call and see if i can better my package.

no worries found it
#36
Spykey
so what's the catch? there must be one?

The catch is you're signed up with Virgin Media, so no HD channels to speak off, no Sky One, extremely poor hardware and sod all customer support.
#37
So this V+ box is it £25 and thats it no extra rental to pay.

No, you have to sign up to the VIP package to get the V+ box installed for nothing and the fee for the box waived. The fee costs £150 normally.

The VIP package costs £85 a month and gives you XL TV, XL Broadband & Free Evenings & Weekend Calls on the provided Virgin landline. You also get a second box installed somewhere else in the house for nothing.

Comapred to Sky's offering this is a much better deal all told.
#38

The catch is you're signed up with Virgin Media, so no HD channels to speak off, no Sky One, extremely poor hardware and sod all customer support.

Still, a lot of people seem quite happy to have VM and most of them don't miss sky's basic package!

Or, go to sky and pay uncompetitive prices. pay for the call to customer support. never get any retentions deal. capped bb. and funny reception whenever the wind blows or when it rains etc...
#39
I binned sky and got a great deal with virgin i don't miss sky 1 etc i'd rather save the money and not be ripped off by sky. When i rang and cancelled sky i was offered nothing to stay after being with sky from the start,In fact the customer service lady told me a pack of lies about how much there deals were like it included the line rental you get 8meg which is rubbish etc.As long as i get the deal i'm on at virgin sky can shove it.
#40
Hi
I've got V+ and it's great, even though I have to pay £10 a month rental at the moment for it, i'll buy it off them soon!!
As for me missing SKY,,,, no way!!!!

With Virgin media you get hundreds of free music videos to play at your pleasure!!
