I stumbled across this new release from virgin earlier. They dont seem to be publicising it that much so thought people could do with the info!

Virgin Media is making HD TV more accessible and affordable. Were not only adding more HD channels for your total viewing pleasure, were also bringing them to you at no additional monthly fee.

Our new V HD Box makes watching your favourite programmes even more enjoyable as theyre in glorious high definition. For a one-off cost of £49, plus installation fee, our TV customers can get the V HD box

This also coincides with the new HD channels being added by Virgin. Although the actual HD channels you receive depends on the tv package you have!

Sadly there is no V+ functionality but you do save yourself £5 a month! Happy days!!!

It says you've got to be on the "M+" TV package to get this, is that the same as "M" TV or is it different?
#10
The new HD channels have now appeared on the EPG/TV guide with 'coming soon' on them. Looking forward to them epecially ITV HD.

I am on Virgin n i never "fort" i'd go for the HD n V+ etc etc blah blah blah , but i have.

I have the XL tv package , M BBand , Phone line , V+ n HD all for ................... £ 32 p/m, but did have to pay the 1 off of £49 for the box :w00t: :whistling: It's amazing what you can get if you get the right person on the other end.
My friends have Sky n i would put Virgin way superior. I'm not a sport or film's buff so Virgin suits my needs.

They increase your charges by a quid every now and again in the hope you don't notice and sit back and get shafted, just to offset the pretence of offering so called deals like this. Time to start a commy revolution.

This says its £49 PLUS INSTALLATION FEE, I assume that means it is not £49, otherwise it would include installation fee.

Does anyone know if you can buy one as an extra box and install it yourself? Already having a V+ box in the lounge, all it would require os a splutter from the broadband connector in the spare room to have an additional set.

With Nagravision 3 wheeling its way shortly to Virgin (making dead all the starview, euroboxes etc etc)), if they allow you to buy and self fit, this would be a great boon.

Yes it £35, which takes the ****.

i went into store 2day to see how much it would be to change my package but its easier and alot cheaper phoning customer services because in store they sed its £75 for the v+ £49 for just the V box and £35 for any installlation or instead of £35 pay £15 to get it sent through the post.
Just phone up virgin and say u seen it for 49 for the v+ on the net with free installtion and they sed there credit it on my bill so i'll be paying £49 for the V+ with free installtation this weds coming

Ohhhh i didnt pay for installation :-D

I must have had a top button opened that day :-D :-D

carefull this is for the new v hd box not a v+ box with built in hdd.
this one receives all the hd but you cant record on it like the V+
Also you try watching hd on demand stuff, its virtually impossible as there is too much demand.
just a heads up for some.

If you read my post it does say you dont get the V+ functions!!

What I'm most curious about is this new V HD Box. So it's NOT the V Box which has no HD functionality or recording functionality, and it's NOT the V+ Box which has both HD and recording functionalities. This is quite simply a brand new type of receiver which can handle HD signals but has no hard drive and cannot record. Am I right?

The V+ HD Box is damn awful. It's ugly and it has the slowest, clunkiest software imaginable for a set top box and is actually one of the main reasons why we're thinking of leaving Virgin Media. So it looks like this new box has the intention of replacing the standard V Box, meaning this will most likely (but should already be) free. I wonder if they will be re-designing the V+ HD Box and possibly offering an acceptably faster software system.

That does take the ****! I forgot to mention the installation fee but I just assumed most people would be able to blag it for free with a bit of gentle persuasion to customer services!! :-D

Yeah its simply a HD receiver with no recording facility. I cant see virgin getting rid of there standard box for quite a while as im sure a lot of there customers wouldnt have HD ready tvs yet! Also I dont think this box will be free in the near future.

Wasnt having a go - just trying to point out to some people who might not know the difference thats all.

Think they should offer it free though as it is just a replacement for the standard v box.

Someone also pointed out about the slowness of V+ boxes I believe there are 3 types out there i've had 2 and it seems fine quicker than sky+

Anyways cheers for the post

This box is bound to be free in the future. This will become the standard box by the sounds of it. Not yet, but soon. It's a shame they are charging for the box as you're just renting it from VM though... I'm guessing this is still true with this new box anyway.

So is this V+ HD Box for £49 offer still on? As this was much better as you get the recording feature.

I've never come across one that's faster than any Sky box, and I've tried many of both, including whilst working for VM too. However... I think my particular box is considerably even slower than some others I've come across, so they definitely do vary.

Thats the offer i asked for and got 2day V+ HD £49 with free installation so this V box is abit silly if u can get the HD box for same price but obvi u gota have a HD Tv

just moved in last week to my new home, and gone with virgin i got a cracking deal xxl 50mb broadband, xl phone, v+ box with xl tv + sky sports & movies also a free second box for the bed room for £88.00 a month. i did haggle on the phone for my second box to be a v+ box as well and they agreed . paid £69.00 fully installed
#39
I the whole of the U.K was cabled SKY would not stand a chance.

Virgin is far superior even with the standard box you get true on demand tv (loads for free) watch when you want (no hard drive to be seen).

Virgin please, please, please start digging up the street and laying more cables
#40
anyone who's got there wits about them can easily get the V+ box FREE

I HAVE JUST HAD ONE INSTALLED (YES FOR FREE) AND 6 MONTHS FREE (no £5 extra a month)

all I did was request this for free, as SKY where offering a similar deal
the guy on the other end of the phone wouldn't budge, so I told him to cancel all my package

3 days later Virgin called back enquiring why I had left etc etc
told them I wanted the V+ box (and wanted it free as I could get it free off sky)

end result

I was offered the V+ box for free (no installation charge) and 6 months free HD
(as I'm on the basic VM package, it should cost an extra £5 a month)

only thing is I wish I'd hung out for 12 months free (suppose I can always call back in 5 months)

the morale of my tale, if at first you don't succeed, try, try again till you get what you wanted

believe me it works
