+ Possible Quidco

Excellent price for an excellent game, cheapest I've seen it - previous best was £13.83.

My first posting of a deal (usually beaten to it) so go easy on me :)

good price and as you say quidco which is quite good at hmv

Great Game. Seriously underrated, and well worth 12.99.

HOT!

One of my fave games on PS2

Heat and rep added

Probably the biggest gaming disappointment for me that I can remember - it looks lovely though, I'd just recommend to try the demo before hand. A lot of people seem to really love it though for what it's worth, and it is a great price. Heat and rep added.

Great reviews over at Gamefaqs, so ordered.

Should provide some fun until they release a patch for Dragon Age

Agree 100% I played the demo for a bit after seeing all the rave reviews and just could not get into it. Great price though.

It was one of the games I bought my PS3 for, but decided to try the demo just in case, and I really had to force my way just complete that one level. When my friend came over he had a quick go and couldn't last any more than a few turns before getting bored. I do like strategy RPGs too, I just found this one to be a lot slower and more clunky than it had to be.

Real shame but yeah, lots of people love it, and this is an amazing price. I just urge people to try the demo before getting this.

Hi all just wondering does anybody feel it's wrong when they get ex-display stock when they order NEW games? I have been getting a lot of these with my online orders lately and to be honest, for most of them I can't tell the difference between these "new" ex-display stock and pre-owned games. I like to buy my games new and sealed and take good care of them, and all my old games look much better than these ex-display stock. Anyone else out there have issues with this practice?

Good price by the way, heat added :)

I tried the demo, and wasn't that sold on it, but I absolutely loved the full game. My favourite PS3 title so far.
#16
Anyone know if this will arrive sealed? A bit of a future collectable this I think...

As much as I wanted to love the game, I too tried the demo and couldn't (didn't want to) complete it. If you don't mind, could you give me a sense of how the full game differs from the demo?

All my orders from HMV come new and sealed, unlike GAME.

If the demo's from the first part of the game, the battles are pretty boring. You don't get to use all the class differences and stuff. Some of the battles are much more challenging. Upgrading your team is kind of addictive too.

I'd never played a strategy RPG before this and I think it's okay. Some of the game mechanics and view stuff is a bit annoying but overall it's pretty fun. The story parts that you're forced to watch are pretty boring tbh, since the characters have sod all to say for themselves and the pseudo-WWII setting complete with a persecuted race is pretty nauseating. Still, good game.

ZeroPunctuation did a good review of it.

If I remember rightly, the demo is of one of the very first game levels, which is a very basic "move from point A to point B through loads of grunts" type level. It is quite uninspiring tbh, but does at least give you a feel for the control scheme and character types.

The full game requires a lot more thought and strategy to get through, and features a good range of locations and mission types (ie stealth, full on attack, survival). As daft as the characters are, with their subtle characters flaws (eg 'hates men', 'has hayfever', 'loves Alicia'), they are incredibly endearing on the whole, and you do end up having your 'favourites' from each class.

The art style in the game is what really does it for me though. Despite there being a few too many static cuts scenes, the game does everything with such style and beauty, I can forgive its few shortcomings.

Many thanks, I appreciate your thoughts on the full game. Have ordered the game, and left you rep. Cheers.

No problem feardust. Thanks for the rep, and I hope that you enjoy the game as much as I did.
#23
Rep from me also because I genuinely hated the demo and struggled to complete it, but you've just made me want to spend my money and buy it :D Thanks flaming! (or rather, not thanks, and I hate you :p)

Thanks for the rep blizeH, very kind of you. I hope that you enjoy the game.

EDIT:

HMV have now dropped the price to a ludicrous £9.99!
#25
it's 9.99 now! :) haha tho have to wait 7-10 days..
#26
its now £9.99
#27
Many thanks OP and Flaming Carrot for the update. The extra £3 off sold it to me!!
#28
One of the best PS3 games IMO
#29
Ive emailed HMV about the price drop, I dont mind waiting a few extra days to save £3, hope they agree
#30
Bought for 9.99 - too hot to pass up.
#31
dammit - typical that when I finally bite to buy the game they do another price drop.

Anyone know if HMV tend to honor price changes? I posted the deal within minutes of ordering it myself and got the dispatch email this morning.

Suppose it can do no harm to try :)

Thanks for editing the opening post flamingcarrot

edit -
just noticed though that it now ships "usually within 7-10 days" whereas a few hours ago it was in stock. Oh well will email them on offchance :)
#32
I'm really glad that both this and Yakuza 3 finally got the attention they deserved. It's a shame that they had to be discounted to hell first. I hope it's enough for Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Yakuza 4 to come over.
#33
Have ordered, let's see how long it takes :)
#34
Well worth buying the price for £9.99 I really like the character in the game and the art style graphics it's an underrated game I really do think Sega did a great job with it.

Ordered :)

Another Cancelled order in waiting :lol

If they dropped £3 off it you won't get it.

Order for £13 or next cheapest up from £9.99 from somewhere else before the price goes up everywhere after Hmv cancel like Saboteur.
#37
excellent - I emailed hmv yesterday and they agreed to refund the £3 :D Didn't think they would but did - but did say when asking about "saving me having to return the game to reorder it under the distance selling regulations"

I ordered Saboteur as well, as in your case it was also cancelled. Eventually got it from Tesco for just under £12. Good fun game and very similar to Mercs 2 in the way that it plays.

Ordered V.Chronicles, heat added.

I ordered a copy @ £9.99, but I have just had a cancellation email! :x
