Used a similar 'value' set before, OK if you cook once a week but you'll find cooking so much less of a chore if you have a decent chef's knife (even one about a tenner is reasonable). At the end of the day if it gets you to enjoy cooking more this does mean you're less likely to eat out as you get better. Not voted either way but really, unless you're a first year, skint university student I wouldn't bother with these that will inevitably be replaced sooner rather than later..

Kitchen Devils knifes are the best no arguments.

'Victorinox' knives are amazeballs; got mine from Germany for about 6 euros. Only need a few good quality ones than loads of different, mediocre ones you never even use

Dang! I was gonna make a case for the Wüsthofs I'd bought or even Messermeister but if there are no arguments then I've clearly been misled. :|

The best in the value range, I haven't been particularly impressed with my multipurpose knife that costs £3.50. I've used knives of much higher quality that aren't too much more money.

I went for this instead

more universal and great reviews

voted hot, as I only want the wooden block. Can't find a cheap block under £10 anywhere in amazon or eBay.

Buy cheap, buy twice. These aren't exactly the best quality for daily use - but great for students or someone who rarely cooks.

Good find OP........ Sharp HOT

Bought a set of these last year... week 1 the small knife broke, the following week 2 of the larger knives broke - 1 slicing bread and the other meat... Argos said they would replace at the managers discretion only.... So... Bought a Russell Hobbs set from B+M for under £10 and they have been brilliant... so the difference between Value and quality at a few quid difference is COLD... This amazing Value Range is a waste of money.... When a bread knife snaps while cutting a fresh loaf... when a meat knife snaps while cutting a juicy joint of pork and the small knife was shaving off some cheese - all within a couple of weeks... Go to B+M and get quality that will last for years for under £10....

If you can, get these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IJ6ZKAM/ref=pe_385721_37038051_TE_3p_dp_1

If you treat them right they make cooking a joy. Trust me on this, I'm not being a knife snob or something, they're just very good quality, you won't regret it.
