I booked it for tomorrow morning - picking up a sofa - paid £13.98 for 2 hours - for a large transit
#5
good to know - thanks

I put in the datails to hire for two hours on 18th May in Bolton and if you follow the booking through and click on the Transit Van it then offers you TWO DAYS hire for £13.98 if you pay online and £15.98 if you pay on collection.

Does anyone know if this is right:?

Looks like I'll be loading the zimmer frame and mobility scooter up with the sofa and tv.

I was looking to see if I could pick this up and drop it off at another location. Doing this would be cheaper than public transport. Seems they only allow the discount if you take it back to the same place.

I'm pretty sure it's meant to say hours, not days.

Yeah I think that too but I'm gonna put a call into them in the morning to double check it, could be a real bargain otherwise.

Will post the resonse tomorrow.

I'm sure you can hire if you are younger you just pay an extra charge.

I hired a transit back in August when I was 22  (unless the per hour offer is different to daily hire..)

I could have done with this on Tuesday, needed a van for a couple of hours to move some couches and used enterprise it cost me £38!

Nice find!

Beware of the excess though...

excess is usually £500 anyway.....rule of thumb is dont crash!
this is excellent as i need a van a few weeks back to shift about 70 large tiles, rubble, large tree branches and 3 fence panels and posts and garden stuff like leaves...but only needed one for about half a day - so got a large merc lwb van for £35inc rather than £60

great find, i know this will come handy... HOT!!

This post may be a good deal, but a word of warning about EUROPCAR's policies

They stung me for 5 * £38.80 (£194) for 'access charges' when the Overseas Authorities wanted to trace the driver of a car. It doesn't matter if no further action was taken, EUROPCAR charge per access request.

I know this post isn't about renting abroad and I'm bitching, but thse companies only listen to their bottom line.

AVOID EUROPCAR!

You can reduce the excess for £9.29 per day.

It may seem a lot but if the van is damaged - even if it's not your fault - you'll be liable for the excess. Having to pay £600 'cos some berk hits you while you're parked up will be a bit painful.

pretty sure i saw something here for cars before , charged by the hour cheaply , where you pick up the car from a local lockup garage , anyone remember this?
..I think you needed a smartcard activated by mobile SMS or some such technology to start the car

Just returned from my hire - Got a transit for 2 hours to move my sofa - cost £13.98

£600 excess is a bit off putting even though £5.99 for an hour works out cheaper then a taxi!

Rates vary according to location and time of rental

So has anyone actually managed to book a van for 1 hour for £5.99?

If so, can someone tell me where & when - thanks
#28
Is this an ongoing deal or for a limite period - sounds really good - excess is simiiar to most hire cars/vans anyway, so if you were going to hire it elsewhere it's just the same (just you probably weren't made aware of it)

I booked at transit van for £6.99 an hour from stevenage branch yesterday morning - I could have hired a smaller berlingo van for £5.99.

It is only mon-fri (no weekend rentals) and friday rentals need to be finished by 1500 i think.

Was the transit a SWB, MWB, LWB isn't really clear on the website, cheers.

EDIT: Also if your 21-22 or 23-24 you'll have to pay a surcharge, if you click the "Need Extra?" link on the right hand side of the page you can add it via here (will only show price increment on next page though). Nice thing is, that it doesn't add the stated amount i.e. I'm 23 and it says I'd need to pay £35.98 on a 3 hour rental for a transit style van, but when added it only adds £10.43 for some random reason. Better to do it this way and get there and they say that you need to pay up £35.98, what a rip. So my rental for a transit style van for 3 hours is £31.41

The berlingo's a bit small for what I need but the transit will do nicely for an extra quid.

Heat & rep given!

It says it's a Ford Transit 280 S - which I presume to mean it's a SWB

Although having said that, it does say it's just an example, so like most rental companies, I guess you have to be lucky to get the exact make & model.

However an LDV LWB (as another example) is quoted as over £56 !

Anyone know if they have it in automatic by any chance?

I have done an online quote and have to return my van after the office has closed. I rang up to see if there was an additional charge and they said (for my particular rental place) there was no extra charge.

So, what is to stop me renting if from 1600hrs and having it all night for very little money?

They say there is a key press - could it be that it records the time I return the keys somehow?

I would be very cautious of returning any rental vehicle to any company without getting someone to sign it in.

There will be all types of extras that can be charged to your card after the event. e.g. for not returning with a full tank of fuel, for damage claimed to have been caused to the vehicle, etc.

I'm not saying Europcar is any worse than the competitors but this type of additional charge is not uncommon on rental cars. I always insist that someone signs the paperwork confirming a rental vehicle has been returned in an ok condition. Without such agreement, it's your word against the rental company should a dispute arise later - and the rental company invariably wins as you probably don't have any evidence to the contrary.

hmmm......I see your point but without me taking a days holiday just to pick up a £50 ebay bought mirror not sure what I can do.

I could ask to start late to return car in the morning but then will pay loads of rental time!
