These are some terms:

Christmas Van Special - This fantastic offer of 10 days rental for £75.00 is for "A" van. The vehicle provided to you could be a small combo, SWB, LWB or a large box van. Unfortunatley we cannot confirm which of these will be supplied until you arrive in to the branch on 23/12/08. If you do require a specific vehicle please do not book this special offer, please book the particular vehicle in the normal way.

I've used 1car1/1van1 a few times in the past and they have been fine.

If you use them be VERY sure to inspect the vehicle thoroughly, they have a nasty habit of charging the £500 excess after a vehicle has been returned out of hours & not checked in.

Tried it with me :x Wouldn't EVER advise using them. NOT voted just pre warning others :)

this is too cheap, as i work with a company that does the same as 1car1 then be careful with the damage as you will more than likely be charged an excess upon returning it. Or........... they could be just touting for business over a quiet period !!
#6
Its worth taking a digital camera with you when you collect the van, so that you can record any bumps and scrapes that are already there, and then return the van when the office is open, so that you can be there when they check it again.
#7
But how do you prove when they try it on that you took the pictures before you collected the van? Surely the only safe thing to do is to make sure that the damage is correctly marked on the form?

That would be a good idea,

Make sure the camera supports date stamping.

And date stamping just shows the a number you put in the camera to stamp the images with!

What a deal , send all the vans out at £75 each , saves them hanging round in the yard over Xmas , then bump everyone for £500 excess on return .

Nice little earner :whistling:

Hypothetical situation though .

Ensure you lift the wipers; a neat trick is for them is to lift them when you take the car back and hey presto there is a chip on the screen you knew nothing about. Plus you have to park the thing for 10 days, probably in the street and hope that nobody touches it. I fear that you will have 10 days of worry and anxiety.
#12
If you happen to get a scratch on the van, go smash it into a wall! You would have lost your excess anyway! Let them deal with their insurance company and have their premium increase next year!

Only a joke but if anyone tries, please post here. Rep will be given!!!

I have hired from these many times and never had a problem, you just have to make sure you check the van over thoroughly and make sure they mark down every mark however small.

Anyone know how much space these things have in the back? I've the mother-in-law coming over the holidays and reckon with a camp bed and some cheap Woolies furniture I could give her a nice private room; and at £75 works out cheaper than sticking her at my local Travelodge (10 nights at £9)!!

Haven't you noticed that you won't have a choice? You'll get whatever's there when you roll up.

Take a Daily Newspaper with you and show the frontpage in the photos, the date will be on the page. You could ask the person in the office to initial the page or make certian they're is in the shot.

And no, it is not illegal to photograph someone in the public domain, but it is illegal, to record their voice without their consent.

Get it ?!?!

That shows (Photoshop/Gimp notwithstanding) that you took a picture later than a certain time, not earlier. :)

No, not if the papers date is the same on the contract..........political prisoners do this before Surrendering themselves into custody. They strip down and are photographed to show they have no injuries before incarceration. It's a well tried & tested system.

How about you just dont bother using them? If your risking £500 excess is it worth the risk? spend a few more quid and go elsewhere.
