Cracking reviews of this TV everywhere.

I know when it comes to taxation it might not be as simple as taking off 17.5% off the list price to achieve a price without VAT. May be some accountant or mathmatician can figure out the methodolgy for doing this.

By my reckoning the price comes to £457.10 but I have referred to the price posted by HDTV Test on their site for this posting.

Offer until midnight 24th Dec 2010

great telly

I think you will find this applies to all Sony products up to Christmas
#4
Shouldn't the final price be around £401 as 17.5% of £401 is £70 and the sum of these figures is the full price quoted above.

Not ALL products - here's a link to what's included

You get a 14.89% rebate to equal the ex VAT price

I bought the KDL40-W4500 on the back of What Hi-Fi's tv of the year 2008 recommendation. Backlight bleeding ruined an otherwise brilliant £900 tv. I've never forgiven What Hi-Fi for that debacle.

Just saying like.

but fortunately this TV is inlcuded in the offer :)

Yes, so £401 give or take
#11
please note many Sony product prices have suspiciously shot up today prior to this deal kicking off.

17.5% of £554.07 = £96.96
£554.07 - £96.96 = £457.11

£471 is the OP's approximation of the final price after VAT cashback - the original price is £554.07.

Yep - the 40EX403U was £479 and is now £504.

Just checked the price history of this and it's just gone up in price before this offer. Cold!
#16
Simplest way to work it out is divide by 1.175 to get pre vat price. £471 is a good price for this TV.

OP confused people by mentioning £457.

If VAT is 17.5%, why is the discount only 14.89% (assuming £471 is the VATback price)?

I'm not sure that answers my question...surely 17.5% of 554.07 is 96.96,
therefore 554.07 minus 96.96 = 457.11.

lol its being sold by amazon.

net price plus 17.5% is not the same as gross price minus 17.5%

Why's that?

Shame on you "SONY" rise the price before the VAT claim

The original price is £554.07.

T's & C's are:

Full price is payable in-store and Sony will refund 14.89% of the retail price you have paid which is equivalent to the VAT by Cashback. Please note the price that you have paid in the UK includes VAT at the standard 17.5% rate; this is added to the ‘net’ or ‘ex-VAT’ price of your Sony product to give the retail price you paid. Of the overall retail price, VAT constitutes 14.89% not 17.5%. Cashback must be claimed before 31 January 2011. Sony aims to process Cashback claims within 28 days of receipt. Exclusions and maximum claim limits apply; see the Terms and Conditions on the claim form for full details.

Hope that clears things up on taking VAT away.

Cheers Bright Star, confusion over!

Price has gone up!!!!!!

Damn Cheats!

Can't believe there aren't any 3D tellys in this deal, thought they'd be having a big push for Christmas. Shame.

Where did people check the price history? I know camerapricebuster does that for cameras, is there somewhere similar for other electrical goods?

Cheers for bringing this to everyone's attention, Op, even if the prices have gone up I bet it's not by 15%...

My mistake, there are at least 3 3D telly included, the first one shown and the 40LX903 and 40HX803. Don't know where the best place is to buy any of them though.
