Yes, it might as well be otherwise nobody is going to buy any big ticket items this week!

Hey, but we are going to pay for it next year, and the rest.. Throwing money at things does not fix it..

the extra tens of billions of debt will need to be paid for ... 2.5% off VAT for 1 year and then 0.5% on National Insurance for the foreseeable future ... we're being shafted ... when will people stop being so gulluble

Just checked a fridge freezer I looked at yesterday in Currys was reduced to £350 with £50 off, is now £450! Seems Currys arn't going to lose out with the VAT cut.

Look, it's a heads-up, simply letting people know that should they be ordering something from here, they will now get another 2.5% off - if it helps someone out then why not!

I think it's because the economy could collapse altogether now. So debt in the future when times are better and people can afford it would be better than that..:?

Lucky Currys.

The rest of us have been shafted with a week to change and test old computer systems. Then on Monday we'll have to fix orders for people whose goods haven't been charged for yet.
Not everything that is sold is vatable.

Very few retailers will stop selling at £19.99 and will just end up pocketing the difference.

Absolutely! It is fine for large purchases but the 80% of purchases that are small will just end up putting more money in the retailers pockets. Why is it that this credit crunch recovery plan is mostly helping large industry and retailers! Rather than cut VAT I would have preferred a better tax cut on lower tax bands so then those who really do need the help have more cash to spend. Anyway I am going OT now! :p

yeah, my eyes literally watered when Darling came out with the national debt increase for next year - £118,000,000,000

Unbelievable. We'll be paying this off for generations. The interest alone is £4bn per year! In 4 years time the national debt will be nearly £1.5Trillion with interest approx £37 billion per year! Thats more than we spend on defence!

should have just reduced or scrapped the vat on domestic fuel then nearly all would have benefited.

Poundland will still be Poundland

I know.. They are rip off merchants.. They should now be 98.6pland.

I wonder if they will bring back the 1/2p piece. If not which way will it swing when it comes to rounding up..
#19
Sorry whizzkid, I usually love your deals but this ain't a deal mate.

working for a design company we have not redone any prices at all so far, just changed the vat from 17.5 to 15. Prices in most shops (supermarkets will change) will not change before Christmas due to most retailers already having the printed stock ordered. However you may find a few stores having extra sales, % off entire ranges type deals.
