Vauxhall Cruise Control Fitted Under £67.00!!

Enquired at my local Vauxhall Masterfit (Dalgety Bay, Fife) regarding getting cruise control fitted to my wife's 59 plate Vauxhall Zafira and was amazed this could be done for as little as £67 all in. I was told that the vehicle needed to have a clutch pedal microswitch (likely) and a brake pedal microswitch (definitely) already installed otherwise these would be additional. The cars computer needs programming to tell it to enable the crusie control function.
Also said that on some other models an additional wiring may have to be done at an hours labour cost.
So had it done today and £66.06 later its all fitted and working.
Worth a phone call i think if you want Cruise control. I can post my reciept if anyone wants to see it for part numbers or whatever.

On the face of it, it's a bloomin' good deal, however it's actually pretty scandalous that they fit all the hardware in the factory and charge extra to enable it!

Still, if you want CC, at £67 it's a good deal.

That's a pretty good deal, I might ask about this for my 08 Astra, it's going in for a service in a few weeks anyway.
#3
I agree, its all there wiring wise, just needs the replacement stalk (£39+vat) and the computer sorted, a couple of mouse clicks later, done! Her car retails for over £20k (not me) and they couldn't pop this in?
There is also a blanked off hole for the second row seat charging socket, i bought the parts from vauxhall and fitted this in, total £8.56. Wiring is all there for that too....!

Its probably the same part numbers as the zafira is essentially a tall astra.

That is an excellent deal - but are you able to advise which models this relates to specifically other than the Zafira? Surely not all models are going to have the ability to support cruise? I would have thought some requirements or trim levels were required at a minimum. I don't own a Vauxhall, but it would be useful to know. If you drive on the motorway at all, this one is an absolute no-brainer.

Retro-fitting cruise control on my 2007 Focus costs a darned sight more than this, let me tell you!

You would have to enquire about individual models from the actual masterfit. All you are really paying for is the part and 20mins labour or so..The labour was £17 plus vat.. Says it was £59 per hour.

I always find it crazy that CC is not standard. In the US almost every car has it as standard. For anyone technically capable I would guess this would be an easy install, but can't find any guides online.

Sounds like a good deal to me. I got a quote from an independent garage to change a wheel bearing on a Signum and the local Vauxhall dealer matched it and threw in some extra checks. I've never had a problem with Vauxhall pricing, its just the badge I am not very keen on. Must be because I can still remember cars like the Chevette, Cavalier etc!

Vauxhall is just a GM brand like Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Chevrolet, Opel, Holden, Daewoo and until recently Saab. The group has also owned many other brands including Lotus at one time and the ridiculous Hummer. To put this in context GM filed for bankruptcy last year and is temporarily owned by the US Treasury. Not sure what that means long term, but in the short term I imagine all dealers are quite highly incentivised to grow turnover and keep the money rolling in. I did notice they are doing some very tempting deals on new cars, and although I never thought I would say this the new Astra looks like a very nice car :-0

Its not just as easy as what you think anymore. Skill helps but not everyone will have access to the Manufacturers Computer system (TEC3 in the case of vauxhall) to activate the CC.

Cruise control is so very useful, even on our crowded motorways. Just a bu66er when your slowly overtaking someone who ain't maintaining their speed or when someone overtakes you and then slows down.

:(

Hot deal

anyone know if it can be done on a 05 zaffy mk1?
#12
Amazed that its so cheap from a main dealer. as others have said its ridiculous that this is not already fitted. i suspect that the car has an electronic throttle which would make fitting much easier as older cars with a throttle cable need a mechanical actuator to operate the throttle which would be expensive. one of the advantages of modern cars i suppose. great find and i would really recommend this to anyone with a vauxhall that can have this fitted/ enabled.
#13
I had this done to my Zafira last week.

If you have a CDTi, VXR or Easytronic Astra or Zafira you'll have all the wiring you need. You just need a new stalk, and the functions enabling via Tech2. I bought my stalk from eBay, and had it activated at Arnold Clark in Winsford for £30 along with having the radio swapped.

I was told by our local Vauxhall dealer that it could not be an aftersales fit due to the risk of "liability". Ridiculous.
#15
Wow that's great. Anyone know if this can be done on the latest focus (facelift)? Would be great for my weekly long journeys!
#16
Oh boy, another excuse for the ladies on why they crashed the car. "it wasn't me officer it was the cruise control!!!". lol
#17
What about the Meriva, similar pricing?
#18
I fitted it myself to my 2002 (52) zafira dual fuel.
Mine didnt have the wiring running to the ECU, but I found out the correct pins on the internet, wired it myself, bought a clutch switch and stalk, took it to my local vauhall stealer and got them to 'Tech 2' it.
total cost was about £45.
Most newish vauxhall just require the stalk and then enabling on the computer (Tech2)
#19
Can also be done cheaply to the mk2 galaxy tdi's , stalks available on ebay , software (vagcom) to activate it is a free download, just need a lead for your laptop , also on ebay

So true.
The amount of times I've been on cruise control and over-taken people, and then they've speeded up and over-taken me again, then I've over-taken them when they slowed down, then they look at me like I'm mad....then i want to kill them....

I've thought many times of getting a flashing neon sign for the back windows that says things like:
"move over, the middle lane is for over-taking ONLY"
"thanks"
"I hate you and hope you have a miserable life"
"I'm on cruise control, you're the idiot!"
#21
wow, this is the best deal i have ever seen, unless they have lots of CC kits in stock and just want to get rid of them, unfortunately I only buy german or jap cars who are never this cheap for anything
#22
Any chance of this being done on an 04 corsa?
#23
Had a similar thing with my Astra VXR - switch was already on the Clutch pedal and just needed a new indicator stalk which incorporated the Cruise functions and 5 minutes on the Diagnostics machine to activate it - cost all in about £50!
#24
Sounds like a good deal to me, and that garage is only half a mile away!

Its standard in the US because most fat Americans would view the use of an accelerator pedal as excercise

LOL, so true. That's the problem I get as well as people speeding up as I'm beside them. The people behind me must think I'm an idiot, but it's not me it's the fool beside me who for no reason has decided to speed up by a few mph.

Can anyone confirm that this cheap CC works properly. In other words it doesnt just keep a certain amount of throttle but maintains a constant speed regardless of gradients etc.

Thats incredibly racist and sweeping generalisation.

always been the same with Vauxhall, fitted traction control to my vectra c by just getting the switch and pluging it in, best bet is to go on the forums for your car (most are covered) lots of info on how to do it sometime dont even need to go to the dealers.

Just checked my Astra H and I have the clutch switch fitted after checking the photos on the astra forums. Car goes in for a service on Monday, so will check how much it is with the masterfit garage that's doing the service. Otherwise it's fleabay ot purchase and then the local auto electrics. Thanks for the heads up. Would not have known otherwise.

I had this one within days of purchasing my Astra, also got the trip computer turned on (part of tech2), sorry I thought those people who have a car and like "extras" would take time to look at truly excellent sites such as http://www.astraownersnetwork.co.uk.

Quite simply what ever car you have do a quick google find a good forum and look at the how to guide, do we also list other items like Air Con you can fit in the glove box for a few quid, foot well lighting, the list goes on.....

You shouldn't be slowly overtaking. The point in overtaking is to get around them as quickly as possible to make room. Sick to death of people that don't understand the principle of keeping left!!!

I yearned for cc on my company cars then when I finally got it I hardly ever used it unless I was heading up to Scotland and once you got past Preston it was great.
Mind you, most of my driving was on M1, M6 and M25 and it just became a hassle trying to judge when to turn it on.

It isn't racist, seeing American isn't a race. Neither is it a sweeping generalisation, seeing it only refers to 'most fat Americans' - and most fat Americans, like most fat people everywhere, are generally lazy - that's a fact :)
