Having just read the up to date reviews, I will give it a miss thanks.
bought this in the factory sale thinking that it would be a great replacement for my now ancient Vax. There are three of us in the house as well as a dog and a cat - although neither of them are especially hairy. Our house is mostly hard floors with a few rugs around the house and a small (3m x 3m) carpet in my daughters bedroom. Firstly the machine does pick up dirt.....until something gets blocked. The first thing to block is the inlet from the hose to the cylinder (see photo) - I can guarantee this with block for me daily. The next thing will be a block at the end of the hose just after the brush head - this probably blocks every week. In the 3 months I've had it I've lost count of the number of times I've had the thing upside down fishing bits out the hose with chopsticks. The final blockage will be around the cylinders filter where all the dirt clings to it at the top of the drum rather than dropping to the bottom. A little hard to describe so please see the photos. Lastly, once you've finished and pick the thing up to put it away a whole load of little particles - that should have been small and light enough to get sucked up - fall out the brush end; again please see the photos of this mornings "reject dump". All in all I'm very disappointed, especially as my first Vax was so good and amazingly durable.

Rubbish

Have had problems ever since buying. Do not buy is complete rubbish

So disappointed

Great at first. Now any bits it picks up shoots out the back when you pick it up. Anything it does manage to pick up gets stuck in the hose/bit you empty joint. Do not recommend. Makes more message than cleans.

Doesn't do what it says on the tin!

Mine won't not pick up cat fluff, or even flower petals. It's off to the charity shop - now!

Not impressed

I brought this about 4 months ago, I'm not very impressed at all! The suction isn't very powerful at all! I have a 9 month old daughter who's into picking every single tiny thing up on the floor and throwing her food every where! I'd rather go around with a dustpan and brush as I don't recommend this Hoover on carpet at all it's not too bad on the hard flooring!! I feel like I have wasted a good 200 pounds of my money when I could have got something else!

great deal.
I paid £99 just for the cleaner in the last vax clearance in Sept.
Great for my home that only needs a quick once over or to use cleaning the car, etc.

I paid £45 in Sainsburys recently for the handheld (with battery), so this is a very good price.

However the 2 batteries only go to extend the time on the larger cleaner (20+ minutes per battery) and not the power it has, which is fine for the handheld as a dustbuster, but I worry about the strength of the upright using only battery power.

Which "up to date" review is that?

Sounds like a great deal ,

Quick question it says ' 1 x Vax Air Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner (no battery) '

Does that mean i would have to buy batteries for the Handheld Vacuum?

Thanks guys

The Air™ Cordless Handheld is super lightweight and easy to use so you can clean quickly and easily transport it from room to room or even out to the car. Although sold without batteries, it is powered by the same batteries provided with the Air Cordless Upright Vacuum.

I have one of these. It's ok for small items. Anything bigger, slightly damp, or hair, and it'll get repeatedly stuck. The design of the inlet is just so stupidly small, that when that's blocked, it just doesn't suck anymore (so it sucks...).

Where it shines though, is corners and stairs. The inner bit lifts off and you can carry it around like a Ghostbuster backpack, sucking up dirt as you go (or whatever floats your boat, I'm not judging).

It comes with 2 batteries, so 1 can be put on charge, while the other is in the machine. One has enough juice to clean the carpets and vinyl in a medium sized 3 storey townhouse.

Forgot to add, I brought it for £200 about 2 years ago. £80 is a ridiculous price for this vacuum.

The 'worth' price is ridiculous as the upright is always around £100.

We have it and it's good for light work but struggles with heavy work, the filter need regular cleaning and it does fill pretty quickly. That said, it's well worth £80 for the set.

Yeah, was reading reviews and it seems a lot of people have issues with clogging and suction on this model. Sorry it has put me off from purchasing.

I gave up with mine, Rubbish worked for a few weeks then clogged, lost suction cleaned filters etc made no difference.

I've been a vax user for years and always thought they were good value. The last one though - I just couldn't believe the poor quality and design. Vax TBTTV1T1 SlimVac 22.2v Total Home.

I cannot comprehend why anyone would pay the rrp of £280 never mind the £80 I spent on it.

If this is the way Vax are going I'd avoid or at least go and view the item before buying.

Ordered, thanks OP. I sent the Vax Stick back to JL at Christmas because although lightweight just wouldn't pick up grit when used with the extension. It also clogged easily with fluff. In fact my old Dyson needs to be unblocked so I'm not put off by negative reviews as I think this is a common issue with efficient cleaners. The small handy vac is a bonus. The 6 year warranty swayed it for me.

WHICH? says for the Vax Air Cordless DUO U86-AL-B
Unimpressive and best avoided 45%
PROS
Easy to use, except in the car, large canister, decent battery life
CONS
Poor at picking up dirt from most surfaces, leaks fine dust back out, noisy, heavy

Whereas for the Vax Air3 Agile U87-AA-BE pricing at £100 (corded & bagless)
Outstanding but not 100% perfect 79%, a best buy.

PROS
Brilliant at giving carpets and traditional floorboards a thorough clean, good on smoother laminate flooring, superb at securing fine dust particles within the canister, terrific pet hair pick-up, very energy efficient, easy to empty the canister
CONS
Noisy, quite tricky to move around, not well-suited to cleaning stairs

If it works similar to the Dyson cordless then can't be that bad at £80?
#20
For that price it's a steal. I bought mine in previous sale. It's not perfect but it's doing job pretty god. Definitely would buy again.
Bought for my parents. Shame I already sent them link. They know handheld vacuum is included as well, I would like to keep it. :D

I have the lift version of the upright which is almost identical to this one and have to say I've been impressed with it. Yes it only has a relatively small capacity but in a way that's good as by emptying it regularly (a doddle) it performs well consistently.

It's a huge improvement on the Dyson we had before, the one thing I would say is it doesn't perform as well on hard floors as it does on carpets.

The 2 battery's alone would cost more than £80 to buy so I'm tempted to get this just for spare batteries

Bear in mind which only test on hard floors and are no longer impartial as they do accept payments from the product suppliers now. If they call this heavy why didn't they say the same about the Dyson which is over 2kg heavier?

Not for me personally but after buying a steam mop and jet wash can only say after sales service I received for a problem with jet wash was top draw .Better than Dyson customer service !

Vax products really are poor. They have a working life of roughly 3 months in my experience. Genuinely wonderful customer service but I wouldn't purchase from them again. 2 vacuum's died within half a year.

I agree with your assessment of Vax products. I have had quite a few of their products over the years and they've never really lived up to expectations. I'm not saying I wouldn't ever buy Vax again but if there was a different make on offer, I'd go for that instead

It has 6 years warranty!

One thing I hate about this hoover is battery protection. If you hoovered up wire and hoover stucks, battery switches off for few minutes. Good you have two batteries.

I think there is a reason why this vac is going from 280 to 80, see tons of these type of deals on amazon with silly RRP prices and then suddenly on special offer etc

Not got one of these but have bought similar cordless type vacs and frankly they have less power then a corded £40 vac off the Asda shelf.

If you are buying any vac, try and get one you can test run and return if its no good like Amazon since half of these are not fit for its purpose.

I have had several vax vacuums and other vax products that my family has used. Regarding this product I can compare to other stick like vacuums from aeg and morphy Richards i have owned and it compares well with them. What people have to understand is its a cordless vacuum you cannot compare it with a corded vacuum. All these vacuum are rubbished compared to corded in terms of suction and pickup. What they do offer is a cordless light pickup for small jobs and occasional spills kids making a mess. It's also good for elderly and people who have difficulty in working with heavier machines. I cannot compare it with the Dyson handheld but the ones I have had or owned all do the same job more or less. The ones with bigger motors tend to be better on suction but still no where as good as corded. Regarding the company there is no better company for service I have come across my vax pet reach is coming to 6 years and it has had 4 replacements each time they have replaced the full machine or the body of the machine without a charge to me. They dispatch it instantly and it has come to me no later than a week at most. No other company has offered this level of service when a machine breaks down. The machines do break down my average has been 1 to 2 years but like I said no hassle replacement if it every breaks. Since it is a cordless and if you are using it for odd jobs you may use it less so the machine may last longer.

Vax have gone down hill, they sell some goods that are not fit for purpose.

Bought a Vacuum cleaner from them in the last sale, next to no suction from day one and keeps clogging with just small amount of dust and support was really bad.

Stupid unsubstantiated comment. I love the bit where they say they only test them on hardfloors! Ridiculous! Cos carpets are so difficult to find these days! Vax are cheap and cheerful but not well built. You get what you pay for! And the suction on these is poor in comparison to a corded vacuum.

I have owned one of these cordless vacuums for over a year now and sold my cordless Dyson as I was so impressed with the performance and usability. My parents even did the same when they saw mine. I would never go back to a corded vacuum cleaner!

Its so practical and lightweight it means I find myself vacuuming more often and its so easy to do upstairs and downstairs without the faff of plugging and unplugging. I find the suction on it on a par with my corded Dyson - it has a turbo function for really dirty areas. Anyone that is complaining about reduced performance I would recommend three things; wash the filter as per the instructions, make sure that the hose doesn't get clogged and cut away any hair from the roller brushes as per the instructions.

Oh - and my house is mainly carpeted. Though one room is laminate and the kitchen is tiled and it works equally well everywhere.

Excellent for the money, bought the cordless lift duo over a year ago at full whack and its brilliant. Not as powerful as a corded but that's to be expected. with 2 mess kids its ideal when you have to vac 10 times a day.
