What makes it a 'shampoo' cleaner? Doesn't appear to dispense shampoo; looks like it's just a wet and dry vac.

False advertising if not a shampoo cleaner as it states it in the ad.

doesn't it dispense the shampoo down the small clear tube that is clipped to the suction pipe?

Yes if it's like the VAX one my mum had 20 years ago it has the clear 6mm tubing clipped to the main pipe, this squirts the shampoo onto the carpet seconds before the attachment sucks it back up

If it is like that, AVOID it like the plague - they used a syphon system, and it was so slow and feeble as to be maddening. I paid a fortune for one when they first came out, must be something like 25+ years ago (about 140 quid, back then!), and it was a good illustration of the rubbish yet to come from Vax :-(

I have a similar wet & dry vacuum that has PUMP action feed for the shampoo - and it is light years ahead, it is no longer made, and generally this type is fairly uncommon now, they work very well but are a bit slow to set up, and very slow to clean out and dry to put away, as well as bulky and awkward to store!

Examples of current machiens of this type here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Karcher-Puzzi-100-extraction-upholstery/dp/B000KLHJW6/ref=sr_1_34?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1262872016&sr=8-34

much more expensive, but similar type of operation.

This one actually looks like it could be the same model, in which case it DOES have a pump:

but much more expensive, and being Vax, not very well rated, which comes as no surprise!

Voted Hot. Had a Vax for over 15 years, great at shampooing, leaves the carpets really dry, and the most powerful vacuum ever. I bought a shiny new cyclonic fancy vacuum recently, but it's rubbish in comparison, the cyclonic vacuum loses suction after hoovering up an ounce of dust - have to empty and wash the filters all the time.
