As someone who cleans carpets for a part time living PLEASE don't use soapy water! For that matter don't use the "foaming" 2001 type supermarket products either! You'll end up with residual soap in the carpet that will just encourage rapid resoiling.

Beg, borrow or buy a machine as it will give FAR better results.
I use the solution that came with the clearner
Terrible product. I complained to Vax who said "it's only supposed to clean tiny patches of light soiling"!!! Wont even shift a 5cm mucky mark on my chairs. And it broke very quickly too. Save you money and hire a decent cleaner when you need it.
A brilliant it says in the title it's a spot scrubber and thats exactly what it does... I've had mine for about 5 years....I use the cleaning fluid your supposed to use...I always rinse my cleaning machines and let them air dry before fixing them back together...Seems to work for me...Keep things like this serviced well and they will serve you well! :-)
