Is it a subscription service?
#2
I'd also be interested in knowing the answer to the above question... I wonder how much these actually reduce your insurance premiums by, may actually be able to pay for itsself
#3
Always been interested in these, good to see something different posted for a change.

I do like a good gadget so would be interested in others experiences of this but I did like the bit from the spec which says :

"Please read the handbook carefully and operate in right way, to avoid anything wrong".

top stuff op heat and rep
[helper]#6
mumbojumbo
I don't think these will reduce your insurance premium at all. You need the proper subscription Tracker to get a discount; having said that, it's an absolute requirement on some vehicles to be able to get a policy at all with some insurers. I got mine fitted at the factory - even now I don't know where the 'bug' is hidden.

What car do you have mate?
#7
All you need is one of DX Spy GSM bug that takes a UK SIM, a Cellphone Jammer and a Spy pen and you have a career change too :)

I wish these were about when I suspected my missus of cheating on me. ( she was )

Agree. Sooner or later these will be a few pence and the government will have them embedded into our national ID cards. very very scary.:x

For those with a gadget fetish I just (literally 1min ago) ordered myself an i-gotU GPS tracker. Ignore the dreadful name, this thing is smaller than a box of matches and can track where you are then output data to Google Maps or sync with your digital camera to geotag your photos automatically. Sony do similar models (the GPS-CS1) which come in at £100 ish - the i-gotU is on Maplins for £39.99 with 4% quidco, an absolute steal. Click here for a link.

It's possible to track a mobile phone these days which is very useful to catch the unfaithful partner or even to track your kids to keep an eye on them

Indeed it is. Have a look at this article

If you suspect your partner is cheating for example, simply nab their mobile, install latitude on it, then you can track it online from google.com/latitude

Crazy ****!

how does this send you longitude and latitude coordinates to your cell phone by SMS? Is it free or you need a sim card with credit inside the transmitter?

This bit "Please note that if you wish to use this device to track another individual or their vehicle, you must do so with their full consent and knowledge."

Our boss hasn't asked for our consent and told us we are being tracked they've just installed the device though I have checked and it's not connected to the power supply yet. Getting a jammer from deal extreme for £15

I am 99% sure they have to let you know and you have to agree. Mind you if they say you may lose your job your back to square one. BTW If you are genuine why worry they only want the slackers or to tell the customer when you are coming and lets face it wouldn't your wife like to know :whoops lol

Well I'm a slacker but I don't drive out of our designated route like the some of the others, the supervisor was suggesting to a colleague he use the van to move some of his furniture 20 miles away :w00t: what a joke.

One thing that always bothers me about these things is how come they get a GPS reception when they're fitted underneath the car etc.

We should all be able to track taxis and pizza delivery services

"Oh, yeah, he's nearly at yours mate. Be another 5 minutes."

"Yeah, I can see where he is, and he's lost. Now my pizza will be cold you ass-hat"
#35
A few notes about trackers -

-Minor Planets trackers are reportedly awful. Congratulations if your company uses their hardware.
-You do not need to give permission/consent for a tracker to be used in your works vehicle. If it is for the purpose of insurance ie. it would be used to track the vehicle if reported stolen, they do not have to tell you it is fitted. If they want to install it and act upon the information relayed by it ie. find the closest driver to a job or track you doing homers during the day, you need to be informed, you do not need to give consent though.
-Finally, Masternaut trackers area force to be reconed with! If you disconect them as described above, the internal battery allows it to call home and report this. If it cannot get a mobile phone signal it still records its location and calls home when it can. If it cannot get any signal, the main centre will report that it has failed to call home in the designated time frame and allert your company! Incidentally, the aerials in the Masternaut equuipment is so good it can be stuck to the underside of the dash and still get a satelite lock and phone signal!

I aggree that it is largely git managers that have these installed, but insurance companies give large discounts on fleet insurance if they are. Also, blame the guys in your work who pi**ed about so much that the boss did something about it!

Incidentally, how would your wife be able to cheat on you in the kitchen? ;-) I'll get my coat.
