Not available for home delivery and in any case the delivery charges are £4.95.

If you really want one of these they're in stock here for £18.99 and £3.99 delivery :

Although this is the cheaper end of the market. This velbon is better than the cheaper alternatives.

It's also available to collect in store so no postage....
#6
does this include the free case at Jessops that you get included from Jacobs?

:?
#7
yes - case comes with it.
#8
Would this support an SLR with a decent size lens on it?
#9
silly people you should try asda for a tripod similar to this for £9.99 and I got one a year back for my scope and its still in mint condition...

I've got the cx-440 and paid way more than this when I bought it. The biggest lens I've used with it is the canon 75-300mm and mine handled it with no problems. If this is the next model up I suspect its even more stable.

I brought one of these to stable my Sony VX2000 camcorder and it was more than adequate.
Though, it's built more for still cameras rather than video cameras as the pan and tilt are not fluid enough.

The central column arrangement looks a bit naff. This one imo is a better buy:

£13.95 delivered. The shoulder case that comes with it and the hand grip are dead useful when out taking photos with it - i should know, i own one. It also has a really handy hook that you can stick your camera bag on when the legs are full extended, which will increase the effective weight of your tripod thus making it even steadier.

Sorry for upstaging your deal but this one is much better if you aren't dead set on getting it from a high street.

I haven't seen what Asda have to offer, but I've had a Velbon for about 5 years now, and it's fantastic.

yeah but isn't that the Hama star 75 which came up on amazon a few weeks ago and seemed to get a lot of stick for being realy light weight and having really bad pan/tilt making it poor for camcorders - maybe anything within this price range will suffer the same problem I don't know - can someone recommend a budget tripod with good pan/tilt - no manfrotto's that cost as much as my camcorder please

anyway I avoided it on the strength of the feedback on the amazon reviews

I have the same tripod and it supports my dslr and 55 - 250mm zoom lens easily, so I'd recommend this one too! :)

can anyone comment on the smoothness of the pan/tilt on this? it's obviously not so much an issue for dslr and photos in general but for videoing it is ...any comments welcome

Dear 15 year-old who writes like a gibbon,

The ASDA ones are nowhere near the quality of the Velbon, which are known for being among the most stable and functional tripods in the lower end of the market.

Regards,

Someone who knows a bit about photography.

Don't bother with this, instead opt for one with a fluid head.
I have this tripod and I wouldn't recommend it with for any pan or tilt motion, however it's good at locking a camera at a certain angle and it's real sturdy too for a cheap tripod.
#24
yeah you need to spend considerably more to get a tripod with a fluid head. obviously you can pan and tilt with it, but its not smooth enough for quality video.
#25
Not going to get involved in the discussion on the price but I do have one of these Velbon tripods which I use with my cannon xm2's and its great. Nice and light, able to go down very low towards the floor and the spirit level really helps with the uneven floor as well. Unless I could actually see one of the others that I was buying im not sure I would want to take the risk on the others to be honest. I do have a far more expensive tripod but its not a touch (for the purposes that I want it for) on this velbon one.
