  No it is just a headset (the 360 comes with one so not really needed) a battery pack (rechargeable the main benefit) and a sticker to make the controller look different.

  Stick with what you've got. The headset isn't needed - the xbox comes with a better one anyway. That massive earcup will be a nuisance, it doesn't even play the game sounds - only peoples voices so there really is no need for a massive over-ear cup.
  
  The controller skin requires you to open up your xbox controller which if you don't know what you are doing can mean the insides of it fall out on your lap (buttons, etc)...then you need to put it all back together which might be frustrating for you.
  
  You'd be better off buying a "play and charge kit" as an extra for his new xbox. :) That will give him a rechargeable battery pack which recharges when he connects his controller to his xbox via the cable provided in the kit. That will save you a lot of money on batteries.
