I've had one of these drives for approximately 9 months & it's still going strong. At this price I'm definitely purchasing another.
In regards to customer reviews - all drive manufacturers will have a certain % of failed drives regardless of the brand.
#9
Brilliant.... i dont need it but want it!
#10
For that price its cheaper than a standalone hard drive!
#11
..Typical just ordered a 250GB WD My Passport from Amazon for £40..

That is a different drive. This is a 3.5" unit.
#13
Yeah, now would really like one without need for external power for this price
#14
according to reviews on amazon it's a Western Digital Caviar drive inside....
#15
Wow, good find!

Verbatim are really popular these days.

From a buyer in Play.com

Rubbish

I bought item for pc using xp sp3. It only works a couple of times before it cant find the drivers which are on the computer. My pc freezes and will not reboot until i turn it off. That is with a clean install with no other usb attached. It is crap
#17
Get in - just ordered one. Was tempted to buy a reduced 250gb one in Asda earlier but resisted thankfully!!
#18
this is hotter than my ring after a vindaloo.

ordered !

With a power brick superior to the Western Digital Elements sabotaged range that holds your data hostage as soon as its our of warranty.

Take the play.com review with a pinch of salt, how can it work twice and THEN need drivers?

But this is a stand alone hard drive!!

Tempted but not sure why I need it

Agreed, and the other review mentioning ISO problems is probably due to the file size limitation of the disk format.
#23
Cheers, great find :D
#24
Hot from me i have one of these drives already and have never had a problem with it so just bought another
#25
Thank you , bought 1000
#26
Just bought six.
#27
Scorchio - couldn't resist. Just what I've been waiting for - a really cheap 1TB

Think this one also has a stop start button

True. Some customers forget that you have to reformat the drive from FAT to NTFS if you want larger image file size.

Had one of these myself for about 2-3 months before it died. To be precise, the controller died, but I removed the WD Caviar drive inside, and I've been using it happily as extended storage for my desktop at home (and all the original files were intact on the drive itself). Granted, it's no longer an external HDD...
If the controller dies, you still end up with a decent 3.5" drive for a decent price.
#30
Not a fan of hard drives with power supplies - annoys me as have to carry the plug everywhere
#31
3.5" desktop drive - needs external power supply (this is the 1tb drive posted here). At the moment you can get desktop drives up to 2tb in size (typical price £100 for a 2tb drive)

2.5" portable drive - doesn't need power supply (power is taken from USB) and drive is truly portable and will fit into your shirt pocket. At the moment you can buy portable drives up to 750gb (typical price £90 for a 750gb drive)

FWIW it does state that it has a 2 Year Warranty. Of course, whether it would be worth the hassle is another matter.
#33
Its a great drive for backing up your whole pc :0) hot no so good for portable
#34
good deal, cant really justify as desktop HDD is 150gb or so...seems pointless.
may get one of the portable drives though - start at 27quid for 320gb which is very good afaik
#35
Yep. Gone up. Was just about to order a second! Ho hum.
#36
Given that the last 4 reviews on Amazon for this are poor, and that after 30 days with Play you're entirely on your own, I think I'll give this a miss.

Thanks for posting, anyway.
#37
just missed out price gone up to £71.50
#38
£71 now
#39

Thanks, just bought 3. Between me and my dad we have 7 1TB External HDDs now (3 from this deal, 1 Western Digital, 2 Hitachi's, 1 Maxell). Can never have too much space.

I'm reckoning about 4Tb of that is dedicated to xxx material.

Can I partition the drive to have 50% allocated to NSTF and 50% Fat32. I want Fat32 just so it works with my PS3, but would also like to put large files on it which Fat32 doesn't allow.
