and your point is what exactly? :?

RED discs from Sainsbury's are not Verbatim discs .. they are not the same quality, not the same dye ... thus are NOT THE SAME.

If someone posts a Coca Cola deal ..are you going to chime in with a Rola Cola offer? :whistling:

Just move on.

Bought my third batch of these RED disks and for some reason they will not successfully burn at 16X so I have to use them for data only.

Verbatim are the best you can buy!

Please do not compare these to other DVD-R's these are the best quality you can buy normally it does not make much differance but these are very good. Some systems will only accept discs which are Verbatim.

Not all Verbatim are the same! It depends where they were made and which dye was used.

BTW, always update your writer's firmware to the latest version and you should have no problems with any new (ish) DVDs.

baroni701, not same DVD's!

If you get these orange coloured tubs and are manufactured in Japan then they will have the Taiyo Yuden TG03 dye (arguably the best there is!). If they are manufactured in India or Taiwan then I believe they use other dies which are not as high quality (but still damn good).

TG03 dye with Verbatim's flawless disc manufacturing and quality process = best discs available, pretty much. You simply cannot compare such discs against anything else, especially stuff the supermarket sells!

Again, baroni701, those are not the same discs. The blue coloured ones are not as high quality - would rather spend the extra £2 on better quality stuff.

The blue pack is an old picture ... they all used to be blue, now they are all orange ...
You can't tell where they were manufactured from a picture, so ostensibly Currys is the better deal.

Price says £17.99 for me?

Verbatim's are made in: Japan, Taiwan, UAE, China, India, etc? They are great discs - but some are more equal than others!

Interesting points. The disks I did received were not blue but orange - so they must be same.

I very rarely use single layer discs anymore, especially when dual layer discs are very cheap now. I suppose it depends what your uses are for them.

Anyway good deal none the less.

What is the best available deal for dual-layer discs? I always have used DVD-R for single layer, but there are more DVD+R than DVD-R available for dual layer- should dual layer DVD+R be ok to use, both for relable burn and longevity?

Yes don't see why you wouldn't go for

£7.49 for 50 verbatim. You can collect in store or have free delivery.

There is no way to tell what type you will get with mail order. Even in shops you will find they have all different country's jumbled up on the shelf.

Sainsbury's regularly have them half price for close to the PC World price, so I just stick around for those. They seem to go on offer just as I run out! :)

I did find it amusing that one poster said that the red discs are unreliable so he only uses them for data. For me, data is the most important content! I don't care if I lose some MP3's or the occasional film because of a bad disc, whereas data is so much more valuable.

Just picked up some from my local currys - Pack same as in the OP's pic - Comes up as a "MCC 03RG20" Dye - Basically manufactured for Verbatim by CMC in Taiwan (Hub Code ZDxxxx-DVR-xxxxx). These, whilst not the Taiyo Yuden Dye, Are the second best Dye that Verb push out - There's a few more out there that, Whilst Verbs, are a LOT more ropey (Plants in China/India)....
