Are these full-face printable? Looking at the website it looks like they may not be.
#2
Not printable ones, they're the retail "write on the back" ones.

and (MADE IN JAPAN) TAIYO YUDENS so why the idiotic cold voters with no explanation?
#3
Me thinks the selfish gits wanna stock up and make sure they get em all before they sell out if this one gets "HOT"
#4
I looked at these when I was collecting printer paper for the missus, I didn't buy any but they had plenty
#5
voted hot thats a good price for good discs
#6
Thanks for the heads up, perfect timing too as mine are running out , got these last time the BOGOF was on.
Verbs are the only disc I will use as I have enough coasters to last a lifetime.

Laser burning Hot!

It's a good price but I really resent the large logo and small writing area, WHY?. Prefer Ricoh gold or just generic silver.
#8
Excellent discs and the price is good. Hot

Unless they are different from mine, the logo is just mirror etching into the label surface. You can write over the whole of this with a dark CD marker quite easily.
#10
Voted hot, been using Verbatim Taiyo Yuden for years now and have never had a single coaster.
#11
voted hot, TY really is the best

lots of fakes around though but you cany beat verbs :)

i think il have a wonder into my local staples

are they as pictured above? just so i know which ones they are

How to tell they are TY's in store? It wont say TY on the packaging will it? Also could i mix n match? I.e one dvd-r and one dvd+r?
#13
good price for 100 disks voted hot ,couldnt give a monkeys about verbatim though had as many coasters with them as with generic riteks.
#14
I'd also recommend Taiyo Yuden media. If you'd rather use something cheaper, why not just imagine you've backed something up onto a cheaper DVD? A year later I've found the effect is much the same. The dye in cheap media can and often will degrade with time (more so than with CDRs it seems). Luckily I kept the originals on the hard drive. Not so serious if it's some MP3s but imagine if it's family photos. Pay the extra few pence and get the best you can.

Look in top right hand corner above barcode should say "Made in Japan" however the first thing you'll notice is that the packaging is different i.e. the bottom part of the "cake" is slightly flared.
The "Made in Taiwan" are also good just steer clear of "Made in India" although i don't recall seeing those in Staples. HTH

Thanks for that. But i was asking about them being confirmed TY before buying them, Not all Taiwan and Japan made dvd r's are TY, hence the vilgilancy.

Sounds like a good deal. Without wanting to hijack the thread - anyone seen any good online deals for DVD RWs?
#18
or for that matter d/l
#19
They are not online. I have searched for ages
#20
Great deal if they're Taiyo Yuden and made in Japan. Hopefully there are some still left in my nearest store.
#21
AFAIK All Verbatims with "Made in Japan" on them are TY's

Good find.
#22
just grabbed the last 2 made in jap in oxford staples
there was 4 left 2 indian and 2 taiwan
and plenty of +r's

Doesn't seem to be many about. Been after some DVD-R's. Just been to High Wycombe 1 Jap and a few Indian with broken boxes. Slough was better 4 Jap (2 were opened!) and a few Taiwan, which I bought (so none left now).
The Jap discs were TYG03 and the Taiwan are MCC03RG20.
#24
I'm looking for a good deal on the dual layer discs.
#25
TYG03 dye type :)
will make a change from the rivision overprints i got last time
#26
Went into my local store and they had ran out, asked if they had anymore out back but they didn't however she said I could have the 100 spindle for the same price which was rather nice I thought.
#27
Hmmm just checked mine say made in India, should've read the thread before I went to pick them up. Are they really that bad?
#28
guv
The "made in India" ones are the worst ones.

Did you not check to see if they had the Japanese or Taiwan ones?

I, like the fool that I am didn't read the thread so I didn't know there was any difference. Hmmm could I go back and say can I have a different pack please.

I bought some Verb CD-Rs on BOGOF on 100 spindles, one says made in China and the other made in India, does anyone know what's the preferred manufacturing country with their CD-Rs?
#29
I'll get the partner to check back in Staples and ask if she can swap them, she has no shame so that helps.
#30
There are loads of dvd- left in the Stockton-on-Tees Staples, but no dvd+, this was due, luckily to the fact that the Store had forgot to put the BOGOF sign on the minus discs. They have now put the sign up, so get em while you can.
#31
Staples in Aston, Birmingham hadn't even heard of the promotion although they did have some 50pks of Verbs in store.
#32
Bought 200 from Staples today, made in Japan, had loads left in Tayside store.

The dyes used by Moser Baer in India are inferior to the Japanese sourced disks. If you are lucky, you might get away without misburns, but the disks are likely to fade more rapidly. Add to that the rather ropey QC in the Indian factories and you can get unpredictable results from one pack of disks to the next. I had a batch of Ricoh or Maxell disks from India, can't remember which. About 15% of those did not burn properly and one of those that did was unreadable a mere month later. YMMV.

Got the 100 pack spindle for £12.71 made in Taiwan. The code is MCC 03RG20.
#35
No -R at all in Wakefield, only +R which were from Taiwan.
#36
I remember when PCWorld were doing a similar deal on these ages ago... Absolutely fantastic discs and a good price too - works out £6.50 per pack, and considering a cheap pack of 50 will set you back about a fiver, these are a fantastic deal!

Always spend a couple of quid extra on quality media - in 3+ years time, you'll see why.

Decent-ish discs, but if they had the -R's you definately should have got them as the TYG03 dye they use are miles better than any MCC one.

Cheers for the clarification as I know little about media really, just buy it and burn it, I think I'll do a bit of research from now on though.

Funnily enough, i did get the -r's and they were the MCC's. The +rs at my local were made in India. They were out of the 50 packs but said they would do the 100 spindle for the same price as the 50's.

only one pack left so paid 6.35 for 50 made in Taiwan.
Where can i find the code for dye ?
