Great price for Verbatim - too much to hope that they are full face printable?

Hot. Even slightly cheaper than Sainsburys' recent half price offer!

Although people are more likely to have a Sainsburys near them than a Staples.

I bought 50 DVD-R (2 packs) and 100 CD-R from Sainsburys the other day in their half price offer.

Well I'm one that hasn't got a Sainsburys but have a Staples.

Yep - if the offer is still on. Give 'em a call or next time you're in check down the 'seasonal' offers aisle as they weren't on display in the regular blank media shelf area in my Sainsburys.

The photo that the OP has attached is this one :

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3337524/Verbatim-43533-DVD-R-16x-50pk-Printable/Product.html

which is photo printable. If these are the same ones then these are a real steal. OP can you confirm they are the same or did you just attach any Verbatim DVD-R photo to the deal?

Single level -R and +R discs are write once read many type of discs, and can store 4.7Gb of Video, Audio or data.
It's a bit like VHS and Betamax though, most PC burners will read/write to either, but stand alone (under the TV)
players/recorders are a bit fussy and will normally have a preference. I have a stand alone Panasonic recorder
which prefers -R discs, my old LiteOn recorder preferred +R (although was happy with some -R brands).
If you are not sure it's best to check on the manufacturer’s site for recommendations - or check the forums.
+RW and -RW are write many read many, and can be used hundreds of times -like a video tape –
but again check compatibility. DVD ram disks are like a big floppy disc, in that you can delete individual files
and edit the content on the disk (unlike -R, +R, -RW, +RW disks - where you just normally write until full and then play).
DVD ram disks are only writable/readable by specialist drives (Panasonic mostly) so are of limited use, but handy
if you want to leave a disk in a recorder and record/watch Eastenders ad infinitum ;-)
DVD DL disks are dual level, they come in both +R and -R flavours and can store 8.5Gb of Video,
Audio and Data on them. They are much dearer than the single level disks, and again check compatibility.

Are these Tayo Yuden disks? I seem to remember that the disks in the Sainsburys deal were made in India, and I just wonder whether the Staples ones as good as the once I normally buy from "SVP" for £22.50 per 100

Made in India and China in the Birkenhead store. Great price though. Still loads left although the 'point of sale' was on the wrong shelf so it isn't very clear!
#28
Good buy - thanks, just bought one!
#29
Can't find them with that link.

The proportion of Japan ones seems to be getting even less, Taiwan seems to be on the decrease too over china/india. Verb are in danger of losing their rep.

What are cheaper? Verbatum? Or Tayo Yuden?

Edit:: Just looked at Play.. These ar the ones I have bought from SVP for £22.50 and Play are more expensive:

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3337505/Verbatim-43549-DVD-R-16x-4-7GB-100pk/Product.html

After being involved in CD burning from the start (Where blanks cost more than £10 EACH) and later DVDs, I am paranoid about disks.

Until recently, i was using Ritek for everything.. But then there was the dreaded G5 saga which has made me shift over to Taiyo Yuden for EVERYTHING.

The disks are more expensive (20p+) but alteast you are sure that what you write on it today, should still be there long than any other disk on the market...

But if Play are genuinly doing Verbaturm/Taiyo Yudens for less then SVP, then I am shifting supplier.

Jon

PS. Don't get me wrong, i am not dissing these disks.. But for me, I won't write on anything other than Taiyo Yuden unless what I am burning is something I don't care about..
