The smartest high school drama since Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Veronica Mars is The O.C. as penned by Raymond Chandler. Veronica (Kristen Bell, Deadwood) is Nancy Drew by way of Lauren Bacall, while Neptune makes Peyton Place look like Mayberry. The first season begins in the aftermath of a dizzying array of cataclysmic events: Her best friend, Lilly (Amanda Seyfried), was murdered, her sheriff father was fired over his handling of the case, she was sexually assaulted, and her mother left. Since then, Keith Mars (Enrico Colantoni, Just Shoot Me) has become a private eye and drafted Veronica as his assistant. She may lack Buffy's physical prowess, but the "tiny blonde one" turns out to have a special talent for sleuthing. In the wake of her sophomore year, the popular crowd abandoned Veronica--even boyfriend Duncan (Teddy Dunn), Lilly's brother. (Hence the theme song: "We Used to Be Friends.") Veronica is on her own until she meets Wallace (Percy Daggs III), the only student unfamiliar with her past, unlike Duncan's sarcastic pal, Logan (Jason Dohring), one of her more ardent foes. He was Lilly's boyfriend and his father is movie star Aaron Echolls (Harry Hamlin). By the end of her junior year, Veronica and Logan will make their peace, but it won't be so easy to win over the school--let alone the town. Throughout the season, Veronica will solve several mysteries both big and small--including the murder of Lilly Kane. But a few questions remain. For instance, at the end of the season finale, Veronica opens the door to greet an unseen visitor with "I was hoping it would be you." So who was it? Fortunately, UPN renewed the critically acclaimed (if ratings challenged) teen noir and that tantalizing question will be answered in the second season premiere. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Product Description
In the wealthy seaside community of Neptune California the rich and powerful make the rules. Unfortunately for them there's Veronica Mars a smart fearless 17-year-old apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving the town's toughest mysteries. Veronica used to be one of the popular girls but it all came crumbling down around her after her best friend Lilly was murdered and her then-sheriff father Keith was removed from office for naming Lilly's rich father as the lead suspect. During the day Veronica must negotiate high school like any average teenage girl. But at night she helps with her father's struggling new private investigator business--and what she finds may tear the town of Neptune apart at the seams.Running Time: 935 min

You can get both seasons together for about £19 delivered in total!

Thanks, that's a great deal. :)

Its not £10.50 if it from a U.S amazon, u will have to pay postage and custom fees on it.

Boxsets are £7.50 each and £3.25 shipping. There is no customs to pay if under £18 value. You can buy both series 1&2 boxsets together for £15 and £4.50 postage and still have no duty to pay :whistling:

Which is what I've done.

asusboy seems to think (from his post in my other thread) that you get charged customs on anything imported if you buy it on the internet, regardless of whether it's below the customs threshold or not!

I was gonna post this deal as well, after I noticed the prices last night. Great price (markedly cheaper than you can find the sets for on ebay, even), for a great show that sadly never made it onto a mainstream channel over here, and never got the ratings it deserved in the US.

Yep, anything under £18 for me I've never been stung on. Only once when I imported something for £95 or so then almost 9 months to a year later I got a bill finally from the courier because customs eventually charged them (the courier) who paid on my behalf. My multiregion dvd player has never had such a work out :) Heroes cheap from the US, whole of buffy for under £60 delivered, and now Veronica Mars!

As a matter of slightly OT interest, where'd you get Buffy for under £60?

Nominally R1 but in common with other WB boxsets it apparently does playback on R2 players, though your equipment will have to be NTSC compatible.

They are allowed to include postage costs in the £18 limit so in theory could potentially charge you on this as it would come to £19.50 inclusing postage if you ordered both

I don't think they can include postage charges.

Anything under the £18 limit should be ok,e.g. if a dvd cost £17 and postage was £2.50,you should be ok,but if a dvd cost £18.50 and postage was £1 you would be liable to pay customs charges.

I don't think that's correct. It's the goods themselves that have to have a value of £18 or less (£36 or less if it's a gift).

However, if you go over those limits, then the cost of postage *will* be included (along with the value of goods) when they work out how much Customs duty you owe.

See the HMRC website for further info: here

You won't be stung (if it reassures you, I've bought both sets as well  )

From the HMRC site I linked to above:

2.3 Are import duties and import VAT always payable?

Import VAT is not payable on:
commercial consignments eg goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18, but this does not include alcohol, tobacco products, perfume or toilet waters

Sorry you are absolutely right the VAT/duty is assessable on the amount including postage but its not included in the limit.

Apologies for the wrong information

so is this deal from amazon or amazon marketplace? as i thought the usa amazon charged by the weight and order for all european orders?

It was the initial amazon.co.uk price for £65 for the new complete edition released around the 20th Nov but being in the dvd club from years ago I get additional 10% off :) So about £58.50. Shame I didn't bother to order the complete Dawson's Creek for £36 and complete Angel for £45 (before my 10% off!) at the time as well. As you will see if you check, the prices have jumped up massively.

It's from Amazon proper, not the marketplace. Standard international shipping is $3.99 per shipment, plus $2.49 per item (for DVDs). So if there's a bunch of stuff you want from them, it could be cheaper to buy it all together, although then you bring the customs charges back into the equation.

ETA: Thanks for the reply DavidDickinson. I thought it was probably the amazon.co.uk pre-sale offer you were talking about, but it was worth asking to check.

Thanks, that's a fantastic price for a great show

One Xmas gift for me done :santa:

Thanks! I already have season 1, so I just ordered the 2nd season.

Mine's already been shipped, according to Amazon (having been ordered at the weekend). Estimated delivery is still the middle of December, so presumably it's being brought over by rowboat, but apparently it's on it's way nonetheless.

Deal is still available and still a great price for a great show, by the way
