I've been after a compost bin. Guess what? I've ordered two!!

Found the link through Durham County Council website for subsidised bins, 220 litre (I got two of these) for £3 each, 330 litre are £7 each

£5 flat delivery charge, so I got both my 220L bins for £11 delivered. What a bargain, and green too!!

You can order online as I did......

http://www.durham.getcomposting.com/

Or over the phone by calling 0845 130 6090.

They have other things available too, such as base plates, kitchen caddies etc.

Limit of two bins per household.

Clearly this deal is for Durham County Council residents, but I expect you may find a similar deal via your own council web site if you check.

Together, we can save the planet...................

Don't you have friends or relatives in neighbouring counties? May be worth checking?

In the grand scheme of things £16.50 doesn't seem too expensive for one of the bins...

well, glad I could be at least partially helpful.

generally if you visit your local council tip, there'll be lots of these kicking around as people load em & leave em rather than actually composting, therefore they become dryish matter storage devices...

composting is a process which needs assistance, something people rarely remember.
A wormery on the other hand is a very good introduction to composting waste food etc.. even then you have to be selective with your matter.

Very hot from me! Excellent deal. I got one of these for £15 (inc delivery and a kitchen caddy) from my local council. They also threw in a load of bio bags for the caddy. Well pleased with mine and researched how to do it before using it although I found instructions in the lid of the compost bin after!! Very big bins though and need a lot of waste to fill them.

thanks just ordered mine from my council.

My local council doesn't seem to mention discounted bins on their site, but they did link to waste aware Scotland site. This site offers various discounts and different styles of bins supported by the Scottish Government. I was about to spend £40+ at local DIY store but thankfully seen this first - so have some composted heat & thanks.

£13.50 for Manchester =[ still cheap, but you can't really say no to £3 everyone should have one at that price!

Not entirely green... they are mad eout of plastic after all! But good find! Shame most people in Glasgow live in flats and thus have no use at all for this except perhaps as a Buckfast storage unit.

Got mine for free from my council some time ago now(Barking and Dagenham)

they're made out of recycled plastic, so would only be greener if fashioned from your spit mingled with sawdust.

sadly however, your spit does not carry a ten year guarantee like these babies.

I got one of these from Derby City Council - two years ago they were giving them away for free. If you're local to derby it might be worth looking into...

Word of warning..I did composting for 2 years..then it filled up and I had to find somewhere to PUT all the bloody stuff, something some people forget. Don't bother unless you've a big garden and somewhere to put it...
