Called my local and no knowledge of this but if the offer was on a flyer they would honour it. Is this just in certain stores?

How do you find the dye out mate.
#12
pop a disc in your burner and run nero tool kit - can't recall the exact program though!
#13
DVD Decryptor or DVDInfo will tell you the dye on the DVD's. DVDInfo is part of Nero now as well.

Use "Nero InfoTool" or "DVDinfoPro" or many other programs also show interrogate the disk & drive you have.

Good deal - shame I just bought 75 disks yesterday :(
#17
Voted "Mucho Hotto"!!!

Just popped over to Staples (Gateshead Metrocentre) - they had some in a basket near the checkout with a sign saying £12.99 but nothing to show BOGOF. Got assistant to scan them and sure enough they are BOGOF - she agreed it seemed a good deal and promptly went and got some herself! DVDInfo shows TYG03.

Thanks den169 (repped)

Thanks for the info . . . :)

I just picked up TDK DVD+r 50 pack for £7.00 at Tescos. Blue and silver top, so not printable, they are 1-16x 4.7GB. Confusingly they also have a RW logo on them but their not read/write.

I know its slightly more expensive for 100, but you pick them up in store, so no postage.

You can't compare these to the Verbatim's on this deal mate, TDK aren't as reliable!

Went in to Staples yesterday specifically for blank DVD+R - they had the Philips 50 pack for £14.99 BOGOF but no offer on Verbatims (at least not shown). Bought the Philips, are they as good as Verbatim?
#22
Just been to Staples in Preston and picked up 2 packs for £12.99 - the stand was labelled with BOGOF. Voted hot!
#23
Just bought loads and they are MCC's.

T's a shame. Think i'll keep them though cause I won't find a better price anywhere else..

hi guys. ive just done the nero dvdinfo programme but cant find where it states thedrive. what am i looking for?

is it where it says manufacturer id: MCC 003 if so is this a crap dye. THIS IS FOR SOME OLD INFINITI DISCS AND NOT THE ONES BEING MENTIONED JUST TO BE CLEAR

thanks
#25
Thank you :)

Just been and got 100 for £12.99

My local store did have a very small label up showing the buy 1 get 1 free, but still loads on the shelf!

Nero Info Tool is showing TYG03 :)
#26
MCC? damn, i was gonna go and buy some specifically because they were supposed to be Taiyo Yuden. ah well saved £12.99

All Verbatims are top quality but the tyg03 is probably the best disc out there.I would still buy these discs at that price whatever the dye code was.
#28
To be fair I have never had issues with MCC's. I have burnt tonnes with those.

Could there be a difference in dye codes between the -R and the +R?

I bought the -R which are showing as TYG03 but I also have a spindle of the +R which I got at Christmas from Sainsbury's and they're MCC 004.

#31
Those with Ty's what colour base do you have on your containers?
#32
Black on the dvd-r redknapp did you buy -r or +r
#33
So no way to differentiate them then. My MCC 25pcks had black base and TY's I had had grey, was hoping for the same with the 50 packs.

I have 10 packs but don't fancy opening them all.

The + version of Taiyo yudens are called yudent02 and yuden t03 (or something like that).

MCC is mitsubishi, and are also excellent. On some burners, such as my liteon, the MCC003 is the best disc to use, the 04 the second.

Exactly the same thing I notice. However, I found the MCC 004 is way much better than the TYG03 when I do a disc quality test. The chart result is extremely good. When i refer to a review site, the MCC quality I got is way better than their near bunch of perfect test samples.
#36
Many thanks for this - picked up a couple of -R's from Altrincham. Will test via Nero whether they're MCC or TY03
#37
Bought a couple of packs of +R in the Fareham store (showing with BOGOF signs). Nero says they're MCC 004.

Thanks to OP, heated and repped

Cheers OP Heated accordingly ;)

Think it is swings and roundabouts with all these media codes, best idea is to find something you are happy with and basically stick to it. Don't get me wrong you might get the odd bad batch from ALL suppliers but if you stick with a reputable seller (like SVP) you should have no proplem exchanging them.

Strangely the best I have used are both CMC MAG. AE1 code: HP Red 8x dvd-r (25 spindle) and datawrite white printable 8x dvd-r (50 pack), literally burnt thousands of discs and had about a handful of coasters on my 2 pc's (most my fault). They really have never skipped a beat on the various dvd players I have tested them on.

The ones I avoid at all costs are: (Infiniti) MCC 03RG20 and Ritek G05 dyes which have gave no end of problems ... as I say it seems to be swings and roundabouts with seemingly the same dye used by various manufacturers somehow giving varying results.

I've had a lot of experience with the verb -R, and would like to share this info

TYG03 in 25-off spindles, will be made in japan, packaged in china, and the base of the spindle is grey

MCC in 25-off spindles, should be made in taiwan, and the base of the spindle is black

From the ones I get from SVP both MCC and TYG are EXCELLENT

HOWEVER

Not sure about the current situation, but MCC 50-off spindles from SVP used to made in india, and the base of the spindle was black

These are really bad quality, to the point where I encountered some disks in the sealed packaging not even having the verbatim overlay, the quality of burns was never as good as the taiwanese MCC

If staples is selling made in india, I will give them a miss
