I suggest a free trip to Afghanistan, then you can become a real warrior, as opposed to a 'sofa warrior', I expect a one way ticket will do, given the difference between reality and COD.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

As a forces wife, I want to say how pleased I am to see such a positive response. I've always been very proud of my husband, and what he does, sadly the nation doesn't seem to be behind it's Armed Forces like it used to be.

With so many overseas commitments, & in the wake of the spending review, morale in the services is very low at the moment. To know that there is still some appreciation of the guys & girls, on today of all days, has really done my heart good.

Thank you

Bargainaholic - I think the majority of the nation IS behind the Armed Forces but unfortunately it seems to be the a**holes like those disrupting the 2 minutes silence in London today who get all the publicity. I bet for every 1 of 'those types' there's 1 million others who are in support of our Forces.

Is this 50% off for just the army staff member or 50% off the price for the army staff and their guest?

There are usually catches to offers of this nature
#28
Fantastic, they deserve to be treated the same as the yanks treat their forces personnel, like the true stars they are.

MSC = Italian. What about the British businesses??? (Oh, we haven't got any anymore).

I am ex-Army, and this looks like a very good idea. But it is 50% of the brochure price, which appears to be artificially inflated. For instance, a cruise in the Med in January has a brochure price of about £1100, but with a 'best available' price of £599. So the ex-services cost would be £550, a relatively modest saving of £50.

So I applaud the idea, and hope other companies follow suit, but it's not quite the bargain it seems. Maybe for more popular cruises the 'best available' and 'brochure' prices are closer together, in which case the 50% would be a very good offer.

This sort of thing is long overdue. Well done MSC. Shame on Cunard, P&O.

Well said accvio, was just about to post the same as you. Just had a look at the prices as we qualify but the over inflated brochure price has put us off.

Without sounding too harsh (not many companies would do this and hats off to them) it does seem to be a token gesture as the saving aren't as good as suggested.

I'm afraid that's how the cruise market works - virtually everyone thinks they're getting a massive discount when very few, if any, actually pay the brochure price.

Princess Cruises give on board credit to serving and retired forces but you have to be American or Canadian. Princess are a UK registered company!
Well done MSC.

MSC had the same 2 for 1 offer for next years Med Cruises for bookings made this summer and this was available to all. This discount is off the brochure price that no one pays and the flights to get you to the starting port are not discounted. MSC cruises are always heavily discounted since they offer a 'different' cruise experience to the other large cruise lines. Generally if you look at cruise forums their reviews are mixed to say the least although some love the 'italian' way of cruising. If someone is thinking of cruising with them for the first time then check out the reviews on cruise websites first to make sure its your cup of tea.

Basically this is a marketing ploy. The forces deserve better than a re-hashed promotional offer.

As you have the option to call and speak with a booking agent, you can always try to negotiate a better deal. I think many of them have some discretion to lower the price even further (ie previous customer: 5% off, over 55 - some other percentage off). Use the 50% off as a starting point and then see how much lower they are prepared to go.

Have you been watching Faux News? Don't be soo stupid, our 'freedom' was never at risk. The only people who have lost their freedom is the Iraqi people and they are the ones who are more deserving of a break. 2million Iraqi's killed, 5 million made homeless or been maimed for life.

Why we are in Iraq

This is what we are doing in Afghanistan
