thanks for the link

Pros: Couldn't be better. No significant difference from MS version. Does the job just fine, feels solid and well-built!

so I think its the 3rd party ones
#6
The picture of the packaging on their website shows a non-genuine 3rd party copy of the microsoft cable. You can tell the real thing because it will say Microsoft in the white circle at the bottom of the packet.
#7
Microsoft or not, it's £6.10 delivered and all the reviewers agree it does a good job.

I ordered one of these from Deal Extreme the other day, arrived yesterday but I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet. It definately isn't identical to the official Microsoft but the build quality IS good. I can comment back here once I've tried it out if anyone is interested, but as has already been pointed out, the reviews were positive.

Would be good to hear what you think, I guess at £6 you can't really go too wrong!

why the hell do you wanna connect your 360 to a computer screen through vga in the first place?
#13
acutely let me re-phrase that, why do you need a 360 when you can have a ps3? =)

Because it has excellent games unlike the PS3 :)

I use the vga cable on my tv as i'm using component for the wii.
Reason for having 360 over ps3 is for the pad Sony pads are rubbish.
#16
360 is miles superioer to the ps3 the live service is fantastic

I use VGA on by Samsung HD Plasma for HD signals. It gives a sharper image, but less vibrant colours than component.

NOthing more to say really.

Ditto here - I use VGA for my 360 to my Panasonic px60 - the VGA allows you to output your signal at the native resolution of the panel thus giving a crisper picture. eg the native res of my panel is 1024 x 768 but component outputs at 1280 x 720 so I avoid the tv having a chance to mess things up while scaling.
#19
If you watch standard DVDs on your 360 it will upscale them if connected to a HD telly via VGA, it doesn't do this when connecting through component (can't comment on the new HDMI connection). The only downside of using VGA is that you may have problems playing some original Xbox games due to PAL50 issues.

When you can have both like me and want to use the 360 on a monitor as you both wanna play games at once.

Oh, I bought my official leads from Amazon for £17 a few months ago.

I agree, the PS3 pads are terrible, but overall the console is better. If I had my way, I'd have the good ole chunky 360 controllers on my PS3 lol

An update in May 2007 gives you the option to change the reference levels. It's on the system blade ;) Hope that helps.

I use the official VGA cable with my HD TV. Wouldn't buy cheapo ones personally.

Oh and to the poster asking why someone would get a 360 over the PS3, the obvious answers would be price and game selection (PS3 has a few exclusives worth playing, but most is available on the 360). I've got all 3 of the "Next gen" consoles and of the 3, I use the PS3 least. I use my Xbox every day.

On the plus side, DivX and Sony have announced that DivX will play as of the next firmware update, so looks like the PS3 may usurp my original modded Xbox for playing those :)

I bought one of these then got an official. While this one isnt bad, its not as good as the official one, blacks suffer from speckling of white. When it comes to analogue signals, official cables are The only real choice. Hdmi on the other hand, £2 cables are no different to £100 cables except in build quality
#24
Just to say this is definitely a 3rd party cable and as a lot of others have said, yes, the quality is very good indeed. No speckling on the cable I have - might have been a faulty one you had MyBigToe? Anyway, going from the cable I have, its well worth the £6.00 or so asked in preference to the official (and rather pricey) microsoft cable.

I bought mine off ebay a while back for about a tenner if I remember and was well pleased with it, although as I now have a nice HD telly, I no longer need it as I now use a component cable instead.

I have an LG 19" Monitor where do the Red & white cable Plug into
#26
if you get an adaptor for twin phono to 2.5mm ( I think, or possibly 3.5 mm) then you can plug that into your pc so the sound outputs from your pc speakers. Alternatively get a small set of speakers and put the red and white phonos directly into those.

Not being funny but didn't think you can link to deal extreme as its not english?

urm its for the 360 dude, you want a vga to vga cable

search on ebay, very cheap
#30
I use vga to connect my 360 to my hd projector. I find the picture is better than component slightly....

There are some really good deals on the deal extreme website. I picked up a wii remote, nunchuck, couple of retractable ethernet cables and wii regarging station and 2 hi capacity rechargable batteries for the wii remotes for £40 delivered !

It takes around 10 days to get here from Hong Kong but worth the wait.

On the 360 - ps3 debate, the ps3 is a nice piece of kit and worth the money for the blu ray player (If you want one) However there are still very few excusive games available for it and and pretty much without exception the multi format games look better on the 360.

Plus 3 of the best games of the year are 360 only console wise; Bioshock, Halo 3 and Mass Effect.

No brainer if you ask me.....

Would this work with the original Xbox?

No, it has a different connector on the xbox end. The 360 requires a more complex (and more expensive last time I looked) adapter for VGA output but you can get them.
#33
got mine from dvd.co.uk for £16.99 delivered few weeks ago using on my "22 tft" is really good quality that's why it costs as much as it does.
#34
Gone for one of these, thanks. Cant really go wrong for £6 considering the cheapest official one I could find was £16. Voted hot
#35
Please do not buy this - very cold! This is NOT OFFICIAL and thus does not come with the converter for the audio jack (converts the two leads into one which can be input into a monitor via a 3.5mm jack).

Also the quality is rubbish and some games such as Call of Duty 3 look really poor with it, onmy screen at least.

The DVD upscaling is good though but just spend a little more for the official one and you will not be sorry.
#36
If you want a converter for the phono leads you can get one here:
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=48366

The VGA cable also has a digital optical out socket which may be useful for some.

Actually I was wrong, it does NOT have a digital optical out.

It does however give a rock solid picture.

Where would I get a similar cable for the original xbox?

They used to sell them on lik-sang.com, but Sony had the shut down. A shame, it was a good site.

They don't seem so common any longer (not too surprising now the 360 is out) but you might have some luck here:
http://www.consoleplus.co.uk/index.php?cName=vga-boxes-xbox
or:
http://www.x2vga.com/

If you're getting one to hook up to an LCD screen, make sure the converter is suitable for TFT/LCD. I think some of the early ones weren't and caused problems.
#39
*THIS IS FAKE TAT*

These cables are worse quality than the 3rd party "rubbish" ones.

The VGA cables for the 360 other than the official MS one are known to generally give a noticabley inferior image quality compared to the full price MS one.

YOU'D BE MAD TO BUY THIS.

...Just have a look at countless threads from people who aren't retarded on avforums.com

PS3 sucks big time, really no decent games worth getting yet and that comes from a Sony Fanboy who got PS1, 2 and PSP on day of release.
