As my gtx480 recently died (from bitcoin mining) I was on the lookout for a replacement card. I'm not really wanting to spend loads so got two of these to xfire them. HD 6970 Weapon of choic…

Seen many faulty examples of this card from xfx selling on ebay. Not a bad price but it's old and ex display. Far better off buying a current gen card for all the reasons posted above.

Is it viable to mine with a single card like this? I didn't think you would get anything

That was it, a Belkin N52TE. Pretty sure I only paid £17.99 too.

EDIT: Even better, it was a Boffer deal at £11.98!

Weren't these made by someone else originally? Got one about 4 years ago that looked identical, gave it away as just couldn't get used to it.

Yeah, I think Logitech used to make these? Not 100% on that though.

Nice pieces of kit, but you can pick these up fairly cheaply on a certain auction site (_;)

What is peoples advice on the cooler? If I get the single (cheaper) fan one, and it dies, where and how much are after-market coolers? If it's like changing a CPU - I don't mind doing it.

XFX customer service is so bad you might as well not count lifetime warranty with them, terrible company

Ye I had heard they are, its even made me think to just put an after market fan on myself as the last thing I need is grief off XFX!

Yes but dont they also come with a life time warranty with XFX?

My XFX6850 fan has just developed a fault and is very loud, it looks like the centre plastic bit hasnt been put on central and causing vibration :(
Novatech just gave me rma so I can send it back for repair or replacement, the only thing Novatech havent got another one so I dont know were I stand!

Read some shockingly bad feedback on these guys not long ago. Some guy started a thread to document the hassle he was getting trying to return a faulty card. They pretty much ignored the sale of goods act and did what they wanted. If i can remember rightly they sent one faulty card after another. When the guy got sick of receiving faulty cards he asked to be refunded but was only offered the "trade in" value of the card. Went on for weeks.
Can't remember the forum.
I'd avoid

Cheers for the info, hate it when companies think they can do what they want just because they don't deal face to face.

Don't take that as gospel mate, it's just what I read on a forum, they may have learned there lesson and improved since then as they got pretty bad PR from the whole thing.
Good price though.
Edit - forum I was referring to

Videocardshop!? Looks like XFXcardshop for me.
Only crap XFX cards for both ati and nvidia.

Apparently they are XFX refurb centre or something trading under that name.

Brought one of these brand new for £123 - £130 with next day delivery. Arrived next day (of course). They use Interlink express for delivery, a much better delivery company than City link/Royal Mail.

I've just gone for a refub one on the site for £106 delivered. Pretty pleased with that price, there was 1 left in stock at that price when I bought.
(considering i spent £130 on graphics i personally expect the best...)

You're in your own little dream world if you think the best GPU's should or could be £130, whilst you can get great bang for your buck for that cash, it's nowhere near what you'd need to spend to have 'the best'.
superste2201
Refurbs are sold out ATM, they do get stock on a regular basis however.

Like I said £123 brand new is still the cheapest you can get it for new.

Except your omitting postage charges of £5.99. £123 + £5.99 = £128.99. Really nothing special about that price. They pop up at £130 on Scans today only deals every other day.

Now while I'm sure they are a reputable company I would rather pay that extra £1 to deal with scan/amazon/ebuyer instead.
This looks great seems to give benchmarks about 50% higher than my 4890. I will wait untill I can get a card 2x as good before upgrading but a great deal for someone building a machine now.
After 16 happy months I'm ready to upgrade my 5850, but I'm going to wait for the 7 series cards. Hope they're out this year.

mine is cancelled as well. so furious!!
I have a large group of people complaining here, so why don't we report to watchdog or seek for help from http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
Not sure if we are protected by consumer's law in this situation.

The HD cards from ATI, also have the ability to produce sound on board. Great when linking to a Plasma TV. I believe that Nvidia cards need an input from the sound card? Or have they implemented on board sound also?
Heat added.

Nvidia sorted that blunder on the GTX 4xx series, I believe.

Don't know if it's changed but used to be that ATI's GPUs have integrated soundcard (my 4850 only outputs in digital stereo through HDMI though (not surround) :/ )
Nidia needed SPDIF plugged in from mobo/sound card into GPU to output sound down HDMI (don't know if it's in surround tho)

ok ...but what's this got to do with the original deal.

that's a good price for a 9500GT for those of us who have had no end of problems with ATI and their drivers.
ITs a good price as its 2nd hand with warranty, im trying to point out there are better options. Like the one above which is brand new, has double the warranty and its a faster card with more features for a couple of quid extra.
For nvidia fanbois how about this brand new GT220 Asus 512mb GDDR3 £50.48 delivered click me

A 9500gt is a fair bit faster than a HD5450 you would be better off with a HD4650 if spending a little more. Example HERE.
