Anybody know how reliable these are? I'm really tempted...under £300 with full HD and a decent contrast ratio...
#3
Video con - is that some sort of joke?! are these a value brand of tvs?
#4
well to be honest Videocon has been in the TV business for over 30 yrs now. They dont make their own panels though and are very big in Asia and are based in India. But I believe their TV quality is top notch as they course them from the likes of the same factories which make Sharps, LGs and Sammies!!

I have seem some people shoot themselves in the foot, but this has to be of Hiroshiman proportions!

Cheap clothes... yes... cheap crap, as so often criticised on this site when Primark or wherever gets a mention. Comes from a nasty Capitalist system that works hungry Children 12 hours a day who can only afford to live in squalid slums!
Tea... yes is grows there, but it would be still on the bush if not for western interests, who continue to keep workers in similar conditions to the aforementioned slums!
Jag & LR... well the day they start making them there is the day their share prices will move like a Toyota on an icy hill. As for owning them, An Inuit can own a Kilt, but it doesn't make him Scottish!
Zeros... that was the Arabs! Numbers...We even call them ARABIC numerals!
Wind power?... I think Denmark might have a bit of something to say about that.
I sit here using a PC laden with software from anywhere BUT India. The support call centres for some software might well be there, but they are universally hated... try calling BT sometime if in any doubt!

Britain WAS the Industrial revolution, but we are now famous for very little being manufactured now, Japan was laughed at in the 1950's but no-one laughs now, similarly India has come a long way, and good luck to them; but they are still at the stage of supplying cheap tools to pound shops, maybe it will change, but they are not a major player in TV sets just yet.

If anyone else is feeling brave enough to buy one of these... Google "Videocon problems"....
even in India, where they are based they show no signs of being a very good buy: eg.

HAHHAAAAA!! You're funny mate!!
Ever look inside M&S shoes..made in India...!!! guess what even in M&S India.. they are made in India.. shipped to the UK.. and then shipped back to M&S in India.. check out a few shoes in the UK..

See of all the points you've mentioned.. the most interesting bit is the fact that you think the UK was top dog.. please.. my posts never mentioned anything against a place.. you want the truth!!
the reason the UK was such a massive industrial powerhouse was because it conquered... pillaged and ruined nearly every corner of the planet.. India, pakistan, South africa, america and to a lesser extent south east asia!! Gaining wealth by looting, slaving and pillaging other countries. Hell the British taught the world about slavery, and were using child labours much before primark was there!! There were kids working in mines and it was OK, now everyone else is doing it and suddenly its a no no!!! So you're propaganda of the Uk doing good to the rest of the world... is exactly what it is PROPAGANDA!!!

So gimme that bull someother day. Even now, the UK is based on a "Unhappy union" of the Welsh, English, Scot and irish (to a certain extenet)

Regarding everything else you have said, please I don't think they even deserve an answer. You guys think that shunning the likes of Primark and low cost stores, you are changing the world!! Ha.. get off your high horse, and get on a plane and see what poverty is.. ! you dont know poverty here!! Infact the poverty you know of is middle class living in asia!!
For windpower check out Suzlon.. wiki it..
For zero check out Brahmagupta
For landRover and Jag, well you could have just not let the Tatas buy it, oh yes and let them go the same way Rover did!! Jaguar makes one of its best cars of the modern times now. I agree they bring with them the heritage and knowledge purely British.. something even the Tatas are proud of. But if it were'nt for the Tatas money, some Chinese firm or Middle eastern oil baron would have bought it and used it as their own lab!!! or was Rover not a demo enough!!

Cheers good luck!

BTW i agree Videocon has a bit of a unreliable past.. but news is their LCDs are made in the same factories as the top dogs, and shipped direct!!

Oh, btw it's only about £282 inc. the VAT in Makro, for those who have a card, the luck of ALL the Irish, and a tendency toward fantasy.

Ever noticed how people who extol the virtues of crappy kit never actually BUY one?

UPDATE.........
The Makro ones have a TWO year guarantee, so a bit less of a risk!

...to be fair, google "samsung problems" or "toshiba problems" - every company has its problems for every electronic. These things will always f*ck up one day - the more money you pay, the more likely it is to f*ck up at a later date.

I was just looking for someone to tell me if this picture is any good...because its under 300, full HD and will play my PS3 nicely it appears. If it lasts me a year...then that's good enough for me. If I wanted something better, i'd pay more money.

PS - since when did this turn into a civilisation debate lol?

Yeah, but have you ever so much as SEEN a Videocon product in the flesh in Europe... Samsung and Toshiba are wall to wall all over the world, with a lot of gear out there, so even if their problem rates were tiny, there would still be a LOT to see.

It turned into a civilisation debate when someone unilaterally decided that India is the home of quality manufacturing.

Still, it's given me something to talk about over the weekend.

Never said anything about Videocon being manufactured in India.. everyone knows its all Made in CHina/Taiwan/Japan!!

You assumed I said that. And you decided to a good go with that in mind. I like thwe way you also assume that samsung and toshiba are wall to wall in europe. TBH, thats what brand marketing is!! LG and Samsung are considered very value brands in South east asia!! Atleast in my mind they are!! They dont stand close to Panas, Pioneer etc!! Even Sony, is Ok in video, but I dont really think their audio is upto the likes of Mission, Bose, Pioneer, Nakamichi etc!!
In my house at the moment I dont have a single LG or Samsung electronic product!
