This looks like a good deal. This is the lowest price available for a FULL HD LCD tv currently. For those of you who are not aware of Videocon Brand, they are certainly good brands.

Hmmmm - not a bad price for a Full HD - need a TV for bedroom...anyone got one of these can comment on picture quality etc? I looked on ASDA website but nobody has reviewed it yet.

I have never heard of Videocon - not having an ASDA near me I actually thought this might be a wind up post - "Video Con" - what a strange and inappropriate name for a brand!

Heat and Rep added for the find though...

apparently they are coming to UK with many of their stuff , including mobile phones .. anyway good price for a full HD tv .. but as the brand is not popular in UK , its not gonna get much heat ..

Hi Sharmark and all,

Videocon is a famous brand in India. I am pretty sure that their quality of production is very good. Need to investigate more on warranty and service.

An Indian brand. Priced relatively low to sell and get a niche in the UK I guess. Yes, the name 'video-con' doesn't sound encouraging.
More details about the company on link below.

Hi Raven,

Thanks for the additional info. I guess Videocon doesnt need to sound encouraging. Although they are new to UK market, they are certainly much much better than brands like Beko or Goodmans. It has several years of good service history in India.
Also, the bush TV given above hass a contrast ratio of 1,500 whereas Videocon has contrast ratio of 20000. This clearly shows the quality.

OP you sound like a really friendly person - thanks for posting this up. I actually got a good deal last month on a tv - wanted to buy before the shops went crazy with massive queues.

good luck !

Are you promoting them or something?

VideoCon [Ignore the name etc, it means video connection. We brits are soooooooo cynical] has been in India since the late late seneties. I recently purchased the same TV for my younger bro as a wedding gift in India and I was told that because they are so competitively priced, they are hot selling LCD TV brands in India as compared to the likes of LGs and Samsungs which were 100 quid dearer.

I do agree that the warranty etc needs to be checked for peace of mind. I am sure these are imports straight from India and ASDA must have agreed to pay pittance for Videocon to enter the UK market. Also initially I am sure they will have stringent QC on these products.

i think OP is trying to proove a point ... as i know the brand i can also tell that it is as good as Korean brands like LG or Samsung ,

I always thought that "video con" was regarding the promotions that BBC does where you call premium numbers for competitions where the "winners" are already the employees relatives.

Eaxctly!
Who was the idiot that decided to market a video product with a brand name like that here?
A bit like the (was it Ford?) "Nova" in Mexico... in Spanish "No va" meaning "no go!

Another example of the often perfect English as spoken in India being very different to that version the English ACTUALLY speak which makes thier call centres so very difficult to deal with!

Has anyone noticed it has no comment on Freeview reception - they are making a big thing about Nicam sound... but that's a feature of analogue tuners, you don't get Nicam through Freeview!

SURELY it has a DVB-T tuner?

same VU325LDF model number being shifted by ebuyer at £293.24 delivered does mention integral Freeview.
Plus 2-year warranty.

Videocon = Indian brand with a factory in Italy, which they took over from Thomson.

This will be much the same design as the Nordmende TVs that cdiscount were selling up until they went under.

I haven't been impressed to be honest. Thomson TVs were the usual quirky, unreliable French carp (French+electronics=does not compute, check out Renault or Sagem for evidence of that). These sets are old Thomson designs built down to a price.

The picture quality on mine is poor -- comfortably outperformed by a Cello TV I also have -- and the build seems very plasticky. How reliable it is, is hard to quantify as the set is only 6 months old.
