Just looking at this, but want to save up for a macbook pro i5 13"

Good price for a decent band tablet, 600mhz is going to be a big sluggish though and all the reviews mark it down due to that fact.

I'd wait for the ViewBook 730 from Viewsonic, will be low end price but much better specs

This looks pretty good. Shows the price for USA as $249 so
will not be a bad price here. Thanks for the link.

Anyone got one? Opinions?
#8
Anyone know if it can be setup as a hotspot so other devices can connect to the net through it?
#9
That website looks and sounds dodgy and the price looks too good to be true, hmmmm....

That model is not 3G, is resistive touch screen, is thicker, no official Android market, single camera and is more expensive than this price too especially when adding on sales tax. Granted it does have HDMI, 1GHz and built in storage, but if you are in Europe it will not launch here!

I have a Viewpad 7, and this really is an awesome price, and don't find it sluggish..

Folks,

Not to put a dampener on this deal, but my dad got their wi-fi only one a few months ago and it was awful.
He ended up selling it on and bought the Archos 7HT last week which is a heck of a lot better.

Personally, I would advise against these, but thats just my opinion.

Which model? The Viewpad 7 doesn't have a wifi only version, and is a good quality product 3-4 stars, as per the reviews online and in magazines, often rating as high as the Galaxy Tab as in general it is slightly cheaper

Oh c'mon. How is the Official Viewsonic website dodgy?
They say the price is $249 so what is wrong with that.
I get a bit sick of one-line condemnations when not
backed up with a good reason. If I have missed something
I would like to know.

I think he is talking about ibood's website.
and he has good reason to worry.

Yes they deliver and they are not dodgy, but..
1. they take ages to do anything
2. tons of reports about people returning stuff and not getting refunds for months on end.

Dont think he or she is talking about the viewsonic website,
Hot.

I had a pre-order for this but I then read a review
somewhere. (Forgotten where, sorry) It got 2
stars from 5 and the colours and viewing angle
for the screen were poor. I got a refund.

This looks good and also a decent price

If that's 512mb storage for the firmware and apps that refuse to install to SD on standard firmware then you'll soon get sick of it moaning about low space - my Desire is also 1/2 gig and is a pain in the ****!

This close to installing CM7/Leedroid for App2SD.

Probably better off getting one of the recent Galaxy tab deals than this, faster CPU, 16gb internal storage (saves you money on buying an SD card right away) and a higher res screen, possibly better third party firmwares around too.

The Andy Pad is getting a lot of buzz as well

This looks pretty good, I have
added it to my evergrowing list
of tablets I might buy.
Thanks for the link.

Voted hot as at this price the Viewpad 7 is very good value for money.

However, it's well worth watching the second part of the video metastasis2 linked to. See:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsfQhDJJr3s

Unfortunately I fear that the web browsing performance may not be good enough to meet a lot of people's needs.

Not as a mobile phone as we'd all understand it...you need the 3g version for that (if there is one).
You could probably skype and use other such communications.

I'd also say that you should be able to pick up the Samsung Galaxy tab 7" for near £200 in the coming weeks as retailers clear their stocks.....

I had one. It was TOTALLY rubbish.

I paid £299 for it, but fortunately Viewsonic was running a trial promotion so I returned it within 30 days. Personally I wouldn't even pay £100 for it.

It is way too slow. And no it can't play most DVD-quality content (depending on the encoding), let alone 720p, because hardware decoding acceleration isn't even enabled. There is a hacked kernel to enable that though, if you know what you're doing. Browsing is also extremely slow, as you can imagine. It is still slow even overclocking to 800MHz. If you are thinking of a pr0n device, you can forget about it.

Oh by the way there is no Flash support. AT ALL.

Wifi, 3G and GPS reception signals are pretty poor, but it could be due to the included case. The screen is in many cases unusable - the viewing angle is so poor that you need to always face it dead straight on, the capacitive touch is unresponsive, and the colour/contrast/brightness is extremely dull.

The only thing it has over the eBay Chinese generic tablets, is that it has 3G capability.

I now have a Samsung Galaxy Tab (£249) and is a much happier man. I hope Viewsonic doesn't find out about this post though as I am still waiting for their refund of £299.

I think this is the 3g version - it says so in the ad.

Yes 3G and can be used as a phone too - dialer function and can be used with bluetooth headset, or linked up in car.

Good price, but a bit of a naf CPU.

Slow processor, and you'll want Android 3.2 for a 7" tablet device (as this article suggests: http://www.thinq.co.uk/2011/6/20/huewei-unveils-mediapad-android-tablet/ )

On the other hand it is cheap, so for casual tablet use it is probably more than enough, and at least it isn't an ancient android!
#33
Slow CPU, crap screen. Better to wait for the Andy Pad to be out. http://andypad.co.uk/
#34
Can't do flash and none of the apps are optomised for the screen. You might as well just buy a sub £100 Android phone and save your cash.
#35
#36
Do the AndyPad and the Kogan have 3G + GPS? Those 2 things make the viewpad a very good proposition for an in-car music/media/satnav device :)
#37
Is this better than this then at half the price??

Archos 7 tablet

In comparison, the same tab got a lot of heat in the CPW Clearance recently (CPW) when it was £199!
