Nintendo has already discontinued some Amiibos

Some of the figures featured in Nintendo’s initial shipment of Amiibo figures will not be restocked, the platform holder has confirmed.

“We will aim for certain Amiibo to always be available,” the platform holder told Wired.

“These will be for our most popular characters like Mario and Link. Due to shelf space constraints, other figures likely will not return to the market once they have sold through their initial shipment.”

Canadian retailer VideoGamesPlus earlier this week tweeted that “Nintendo has officially discontinued Marth, Wii Fit Trainer & Villager Amiibos” and despite the widespread derision the company received on the social network, it looks like it may well have been spot on.

The more demand the more likely there will be another run.

They are to be used with all future nintendo titles; the biggest game out right now to support them is Super Smash Bros. They are used for various reasons and ways and those ways and reasons vary upon each game. Smash bros utilises them as character building, fighting, customisation etc. where as Mario Kart 8 uses them to unlock exclusives costumes etc.

They have huge potential and the quality of these figures are astounding (Mario In particular).

Your son will love them, I can assure you :)

thank you so so much - was struggling for more gift ideas so this has just helped me greatly ... is super smash bros the only game available that supports the figures on the wii u console?

Nice find :), slowly completing my wave 1 collection (will be preordering all future waves me thinks).
#13
Out of stock dammit
#14
Gone now I think. Can't add to basket.
#15
Yup, gone. What a funny world we live in :S
#16
I'm sure they are doing this to heighten excitement for future waves... The cynic in me...
#17
This is stupid, why would they discontinue them completely when nintendo have a vision to use them for years to come?

Just because they are haulting production of certain models doesn't mean they won't reproduce them once they have met the demands of the more popular amiibos

It's the only game that writes info to them, as far as I understand. There are other games that reads the info and unlocks 'on-disc' content (Captain Toad, Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors etc...). There are plans to do it for more. I understand they are going to do more that aren't Smash related in the future.

Villager marth & wii fit trainer are the ones too get. Prices on eBay vary. Marth is between £20-£26. Wii fit trainer is between £18-£22 & villager is between £30-£38. These prices are current auction prices not inflated buy it now prices.

Great for someone who likes the Amiibos but if I ever get any, they'll be all-in-one as a Limited Edition / Collector's Edition. I just don't really care to buy singles.

This guy keeps posting the same crap on every Amiibo post. Rumors spread that three are not being produced anymore, news websites picked it up and now Nintendo are selling them like crazy.
