Sky doesn't compare with virgin by a long shot.

Legal terms at bottom of page say £49.95 set up fee.
Virgin recently advised of 20% + price increase from February

you might want to take a look at the VM forums before you make any kind of jump. I have been with them since the NTL/Comcast days and all was good up until 6 months ago. Now I am lucky to get half a meg on a 100meg line. Fault started in July, estimated fix date 31st December! Highly over utilised network but still happy to keep putting more and more customers onto it.

That is unfortunate but I get an excellent service/speed and if you are in the mood of reading forums head over to the sky and talk talk forums.
I'm surprised they still have any customers

Things were much more efficient when we only had the likes of BT, British Gas etc. Sure you paid more but you received very good service.

Most people do for a while. Mine was always excellent - then it started droppping (when i was 120meg) and the 'engineer' advised i'd never get 120meg in my area (which I had been getting) so I changed package down to 100meg. It has progressivly got worse over time to being unusable during peak times now. This is a common thing in a lot of areas, the VM answer is to admint to nothing and send out an engineer to fix a problem that does not exist in your house. Basically wasting everyones time rather than be a little more transparent.

I am virgin broadband existing customer I phoned them to see if they offer any good deal to stay with virgin - they offered me £19.50 ( up to 50mbps speed) for month /12 months contract and one off credit £20. Hope this helps to some one
#22
I got this uswitch deal 2-3 months ago when the deal was on. It's well worth it if your coming from EE. Apart from that I wouldn't recommend as only 16 mb shoot out. But anything was better than EE.

OHHHHH & another thing. Virgin is hiking up prices in February for all customers so think before you change. :)
#23
I can't see a way to pay the line rental upfront. Anyone managed to do this? If so....how?
#24
You can pay line rental upfront later after placing your order online by calling at 0800 064 3822.
#25
The deal..

Phone --> £16.99 x 12 = £203.88, however reduced to £164 if paid up front.

BB --> (£4 x 6) + (£17.50 x 6) = (£24) + (£105) = £129

Total --> (£164) + (£129) = £293

Minus £55.

Overall Total --> (£293) - (£55) = £238

Therefore £19.83 a month.

(unsure on the £218 mentioned above in the title)
#26
"By paying your line rental upfront for the discounted rate of £164, you’ll save £39.88 over the year!"
#27
I've signed up...

:)
#28
How do you sign up for line renter saver because it appears you can't do so on the order page?

When I rang them they told me to phone up on the day it goes active

I would recommend people know what they are getting with Virgin Media. Quite possibly the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to give my custom.

The comments about slow network are correct, if you are in one of their fault areas, you will be disappointed by the service. I pay for 152 mb and am lucky to 30 mb in the evening. The router range is pretty good, but it has some strange security settings.

The TiVo TV service is a pathetic joke, slow buggy interface with effectively no content, unless you pay for sky, but you can't get at it thought 10000000000 menus. For a service based on streaming, they have ruined it with the dedicated 10 mb connection, which in the evening it too slow for iplayer to work.

As for the Indian call centres, I have never dealt with such incompetence and an unwillingness to take responsibility and help customers.

I have just used to price rise to cancel my contract and end my Virgin Media hell after 2 months.

If you have had Sky TV, it is worth the money. Don't be fooled by Virgin, you are better off with a VHS recorder!

Back to Sky for me, just need to decide where to get broadband

I didn't realised they capped the TiVo service.. I was wondering why iPlayer is pretty much unwatchable with the buffering, that is horrendous!

Agree with the router issues, I get random dropouts when out of the room. All in all a little disappointed since switching to the 152mb bundle :(

They cirtainly do. My Tivo/Broadband has been unusable since July (along with my BB). Have been told it will be fixed by 31st December 2014 (yup, that didn't happen), now date has changed to 28th Jan 2015... this is a common theme and you only have to look on the VM forums to verify it.

Very nice, is that the 120meg service? I used to love those speeds once. I'm hoping to be getting some answers from VM soon. When it works well, it's great. When things go wrong, this is where they seem to fall over.
#37
100 meg.
Not getting the upload i was promised but can't complain
#38
that upload speed is correct for VM - they made a few changes when they changed the tiers:

Download speeds 50Mb, 100Mb and 152Mb
Upload speeds 3Mb, 6Mb and 12Mb

I was on the top tier (which at the time was 120Mb) and used to get 12Mb upload - then I downgraded to the 100Mb as my speeds were starting to get worse and worse and ended up with a 6Mb upload speed.
