Well, that's me just taken out my very first mobile phone contract!:-(
I asked them if I could keep my number as I am on Virgin PAYG but they said no, so I asked Virgin if I could do it. They said yes, of course you can. The only reason they are telling you "no" is because they get more commission if you are seen as a brand new customer. I told they guy this when I rang to take the offer and he said "no problem".
But then it turns out I have to ring Virgin once I recieve the Sim for them to do the business with the numbers anyway, as they (CPW) only do the number porting for the O2 network.
Anyone know if this is the right information?
Upshot is, I've taken the deal, and if I have to have a different number so be it, but here's hoping I get to keep my number as well.
    Thanks again, op.

dont change the number you will lose the cashback as its allocated to that number on cpw system so they wont pay out when you send in a bill with a different number.

Thanks for that gunton. I did end up keeping the number that was sent with the contract as it just seemed like too much hassle to port it and then port it again. I've sent off my cashback claim and am now waiting for my cheque. :-D
Only thing is, once I cancel the contract, I am going to have to text everyone again and tell them I've got yet another new number!! Some will recognise that it is my old number and they are going to be very confused with all this chopping and changing!! How does everyone else get round this? In fact, if I take out another contract (cashback, of course) then I'll have to tell everyone yet another number. :?

you can change ya number over to any network as long as you do it when you take out the contract and then you still will get ya cashback. it might be an idea to transfer ya number to O2 then transfer back to virgin for the same deal.

DONT forget ya may have a red reward of £10 to spend on a new phone if ya spent over £100 on ya contract in the past 6months. use that befor ya leave virgin and they might also be able to offer you a good deal to stop with them. but cnat see them giving you 6months free lik cpw did.

Yes posted mine in late December, all details of what to do can be found on the Carphone Warehouse website. You simply send in your 4th bill (I recommend by recorded delivery). Even got a text to say they had received my claim & another text to say that I should receive my cheque/cashback within 30 days :)

Thanks Rebellion :) did you send a covering letter or will just the bill suffice?

here's a link to cpw's chequeback info, in case anyone's looking for it

Got my £90 cheque yesterday, do we give I month notice to stop or do we just cancel direct debit?

Good deal but I wasted loads of call time and texts as I am not a big user. Would do deal again if they let me.

    Thanks to OP

yep, just spoke to them and they confirmed this. You don't have to give a months notice either apparantly, was told my expiry date is the 3rd of march and could cancel any time, even the day before.

ya can only take out once ya contract has ended and over. as cpw only allow one virgin contract at a time as i have found out with my 12month one and wanted to take this out last month when it was at 4months
