This is obviously specific to my haggling skills but I thought I would let people know it's possible for new customers.

Originally when I called, the salesman was offering me nothing...basic online deals...kept saying there was no discounts or offers available.

I was quite stubborn as Sky had offered me fibre max for £26.31... this guy was telling me £36...

He spoke to his manager who offered £8 off one months bill which I scoffed at naturally. His manager then offered one month half price. Again I was pointing out the major price difference and the 18 month contract.

Eventually I got transferred to his manager who offered £22.99 for 50mb and £27.99 for 100mb for a 12 month contract (normally 18 months) with no installation fee (normally £40). I said I'd have to think about it. He asked what would make me book tonight? I said if you could give me 100mb for £22.99. He went away and came back and agreed to it. He also waived the activation charge (normally £14.99)

I called today to ask how much the tv would be and before the guy quoted me, he told me that it was actually £21.99 for the 12 months. I got email proof tonight and am delighted.

Cheers

Thanks Sharyn, I did get everything checked by pre-installation in Nottingham. Also got £50 for me and £50 for my parents by mentioning them as referral. Glad you got sorted!

just another case of virgin treating new customers way better than customers who have been with them for 5 years plus

so is that without phone line rental? or is it not required? I've always had them push the phone line, it was like they'd be shot if I didn't take an unused phone line too :)

'I'd like steak & chips please'
'Certainly Sir, thats £8.99, plus phone line rental, makes £14.99'
'Erm, but I dont want a phone line'
'Sorry Sir, you must have it or I will start crying'

Yes mate that's the total cost. Haha aye it's weird! Probably because if the phone is installed, there's always a chance of people using it and upping their bill price with calls

I got a letter this week they are putting up my monthly price by £3.50. Like EVERY YEAR!

Liars! Promised 19.99 by doorstep salesman but being charged 23. Emails to prove it but still not even a call back from customer services. 100mb is good apart from that.

Why are people voting cold out of interest? Anyone got a better bb deal elsewhere?

Well done, a good reward for your persistence. I have negotiated with virgin media on a few occasions now; keep it civilised and reasonable and they do try to keep you as a customer. it just takes persistence and also a willingness to actually let the contract expire and go with another provider if required. I've taken it down to the wire on two occasions- as long as you've given notice to terminate they know when the contract expires- just leave it and see who blinks first. You will get a call

Hope you get it sorted. Best to call 0345 454 1111 option 1 option 4 option 4. Or try 0800 052 1734 between 9+6 Mon-Friday. 1st # is cancellations team who are UK based. 2nd # is pre-installation who have 19 Nottingham workers during those hours... keep trying til you get 1. I spoke to Ika there...lovely girl, very helpful

They must think you're satisfied, why should they give you anything?

I took the contract which was £5 per month plus line rental. These guys sent an email that says they are increasing it by 3.50 a month making it £8.50 per month plus line rental. How the hell can they do it.

I will change it to a different provider as soon as this contract finishes.

In a strange situation myself. Cancelled last week on mine as they put my bill up £3.50 which in % terms on what I pay is quiet alot.
I pay £26.50 for 150mg broadband and a phone I never use.
But when I look at sky's deal for £70 cashback quidco and a prepaid card you get with sky (£100) for £17.99pm all in.
I'm so tempted to leave.
But it's 17mg, but nearly free for a year, works out at only paying for like 2 months.
I'm holding out to see what virgin offer.
It's so annoying they think they can charge above inflation every 12 months.
If they even stuck at 5% I wouldn't think to cancel.

Dont quote me but due to being such a large increase you can challenge it and cancel straight away.

The letter advising of the increase tells you that you can cancel the contract if you're not happy. That's what I'm doing. £40 pm for 70mbs and of course the obligatory phone line.... .

Good luck getting your 100mbs . I just dumped Virgin . With a 50mbs job the best I ever got was 6mbs falling to 2mbs at peak times. I think they have major contention issues in some areas. Never even argued the toss when I dumped them.

I had paint open as I clicked print screen on the keyboard, pasted in paint, then uploaded to url and posted for the guy who wanted to see the email. The spelling mistake is from the girl who sent me the email.

Voted hot, don't think it will make any difference though. I'm with Virgin, and I'll be honest with you, I'm jealous, but I don't think that should be any reason for voting cold. Also, even though you have provided screen shots, what you got is unbelievable, me being a Virgin media customer for 5+ years, only broadband (50mb) minus the phone, am paying £21 roughly, and they gave you more for roughly the same price.

existing customers can get 150Mb for £22, with no phone line, do the cancelation process and they will reduce the price, we were paying £26 and it was going up to £36. I put in the cancelation request and a few days later got the call, guy said why are you leaving stupidly he caught me off guard and I said if it wasn't going up we wouldn't be, he then went on to offer less than we were paying.

ALL companies do that, why offer the current customer anything if they already pay you.

To all those who's bills have gone up on VM, you get a month from notification to cancel, regardless of where you are in your contract. I've just done it, bonus as I'd just started paying the full price after my offer finished.

Cheers mate I think its all down to speaking to the manager and arguing the toss. The manager seemed to have the ability to discount to whatever was necessary to sell. The original guy told me 3 or 4 times that was the price but i kept at it and so should you. Best of luck!

It might as someone mentioned above be cheaper for you to take a phoneline with them. Mine was.

I just tried to get this deal but they couldn't do it. They said they would need to look into your account to see how the deal was setup but couldn't for security reasons i.e. password, first line of address etc.

The best they could offer was £34.99 a month. They also mentioned that you may have went through Uswitch first or something?
